Wyndham Championship – Live on Sky Sports 4 from 20:00 Thur 20th Aug
After a fascinating PGA Championship, the PGA Tour heads to Greensboro, North Carolina for the Wyndham Championship. It is the last regular event before the FedEx Cup Playoff Series gets underway next week at Ridgewood Country Club. It is also the final opportunity for the players outside of the top 125 in the FedEx standings to make it into playoffs and retain their PGA Tour cards ahead of next season. As you’d expect the week after a major, the field is a relatively weak one, however there are some big names competing, including Brooks Koepka, Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott who head the betting.
Renovated by Pete Dye in 2007, Sedgefield Country Club hosts this year’s Wyndham Championship as it has done since 2008. Last year’s winner, Camilo Villegas shot 17 under par to claim his fourth PGA Tour title and low scoring is likely to be required once again this year. The course is a par 70 that plays 7,071 yards, and it consists of twelve par 4’s and just four par 3’s and two par 5’s. Unsurprisingly, those that rank well in the par 4 scoring average statistic have performed well around Sedgefield, therefore it is a stat to look out for this week.
Nick Watney – Nick Watney led this event after 54 holes last year, this suggesting Sedgefield is a golf course he can win around. Admittedly, he’s struggled for form over the past couple of years, but he’s still managed to record three top 10’s this season, this includes a second place finish in the AT&T Pebble Beach National. The main reason for me backing Nick Watney is his performance in the PGA Championship last week, he shot an opening round of 78, but followed that up with rounds of 68, 68 and 70, which resulted in a tie for 30го position. A good week on the greens and Watney may have a great chance this week after a very good tee to green performance in last week’s major.

Jonas Blixt – Two time PGA Tour winner, Jonas Blixt has started to find some form and he’s overpriced at 125/1 this week. The Swede finished 22й a few weeks ago in the Canadian Open and followed that up with a 30го place finish in the Quicken Loans National, and more recently tied for 13го in the Barracuda Championship. This is a venue where distance isn’t imperative off the tee and Blixt isn’t the longest of drivers, plus he shot two rounds of 67 around Sedgefield in 2012, which indicates it’s a course he can score well around.

Ricky Barnes – I’ve backed Ricky Barnes quite a bit recently and I think he’s great value once again this week. Barnes’ is playing the best golf he has for some time, last month he was leading the Barbasol Championship going into the final round and finished 3й. Since then he’s recorded 11го, 63й and 18го place finishes but these results don’t tell the full story. He was 21улица going into the final round of the Quicken Loans National and a poor final round led to a 63й place finish. In the American’s last outing, he was 9го going into the fourth round of the Barracuda Championship, but another poor final round resulted in a tie for 18го place. All in all, Ricky Barnes is playing some very good golf and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him in contention this week.
