West Ham v Man Utd – London Stadium at 17:15 live on Sky Sports 1
The gruelling festive Premier League period continues on Monday as West Ham host Man Utd at the London Stadium. The two sides will be playing their second game in three days so both managers are expected to rotate. Although team selection could play a big part here, United are the form side and offer some value on the Asian Handicap market.
The Hammers defeated Man Utd in their last ever game at the Boleyn Ground at the end of last season. However, their first at the Londom Stadium has been a difficult one so far, unable to replicate the form from last season.
The Irons form has been improving recently though, and prior to their narrow 1-0 defeat against defending champions Leicester last time out, they won 3 on the spin. They currently sit 11th in the table.
West Ham’s form at home has also improved, picking up 11 points in their last 6 matches in East London.
Defensively they are becoming stronger, conceding just twice in their last four outings.
With a fit again Andy Carroll in attack and Utd’s tendency to concede, Slaven Bilic will be expecting his side to create chances and really make this tough for the visitors.
It’s now 10 league games without defeat for Jose Mourinho’s side and they’re on a run of 5 straight wins
A title challenge still looks out of the question, but a top four finish is looking more likely if recent form is anything to go by. They face stiff competition though and need to keep the pressure on the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and City with a win here.
Last time out they showed some real character, heading in to the last 5 minutes of their game against Boro 1-0 down, before turning the match on its head to with 2-1, thanks to goals from Martial and Pogba.
They will travel to London full of confidence after that win as well as a strong away record so far this season.
United have picked up an average of 1.89 points per game on the road and have won 5 of their 7 away days against teams below them in the table, losing just once.
The value sits squarely with the visitors on the Asian Handical market here for me. They are growing more confident each week and improving under Mourinho as the season goes on.
West Ham’s results have also improved but you have to look at the calibre of their competition. Their 3 wins came against two struggling sides in Sunderland and Hull, as a poor Burnley side away from home.
The hosts should make a game of it, but I expect United’s quality to shine through in a comfortable away win.
