West Ham v Sunderland – Upton Park at 12:45 live on BT Sport 1
The Premier League returns tomorrow after a two week break and it kicks of with in-form West Ham against an improving Sunderland at Upton Park.
The Hammers currently sit in 7th place, level on points with Southampton in 6th and a point behind Man Utd in fifth.
They welcome back Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce, who’s work at Upton Park is often under-estimated as he turned them into an established Premier League side. His sacking may have been a shock, but the appointment of Slaven Bilic has certainly improved the Irons, as they are now looking like a genuine top 6 side.
West Ham have won 7 of their last 10 meetings with the Wearsiders at home, losing just once. If they win tomorrow, they will have amassed a record number of points after 27 games, beating the 42 earned at this stage in 2005/06.
West Ham are unbeaten at home in their last 10 matches, W5-D5 and come into this match on the back of a morale boosting 5-1 win over Blackburn in the FA Cup last Sunday.
Dimitri Payet was on the score sheet once again and now has 3 goals in his last 2 games. The French international has scored or assisted 12 league goals this season, scoring 7, assisting 5, twice as many as any other West Ham player.
The Hammers are a very tough team to beat, and with an abundance of attacking talent, the 1.87 on a home win looks a good price.
Sunderland are improving though and after a 10 day break in Dubai, the players should feel rested and fresh.
Before jetting off to the sun, they defeated Man Utd 2-1 at the Stadium of Light in their best performance of the season. Despite that win, they remain in the bottom 3, but are now just 1 point behind Norwich in 17th.
The Black Cats have conceded the most shots on target this season, 158, but since the arrival of Lamine Kone, they have looked more assured at the back.
Defensively, they will have to be at their best to stop the Hammers getting through, but despite improving they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 8 matches. In fact they have just one clean sheet on the road from 13 this campaign.
I’m not expecting this to be a classic, but it should be a tight affair. Under 2.5 goals looks a good price at 1.94 but for my recommendation I’m backing the Hammers -0.5 on the Asian Handicap betting market.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: West Ham -0.5 at 1.87
