West Ham v Liverpool – Upton Park at 12:45 live on BT Sport 1
The first Premier League match of 2016 see’s Liverpool travel to East London to face West Ham at Upton Park this Saturday lunchtime.
This match comes just 63 hours after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Sunderland as the busy festive period comes to an end. The extra rest for the Hammers, who last played on Monday in a 2-1 win over Southampton, could make this match closer than the prices suggest.
Prior to his sides win over Southampton, Slaven Bilic had seen his side draw 5 consecutive games, 3 of which were goalless. Despite the long run of draws, the Irons remain in 8th place, just a point behind their opponents and 6 points behind Tottenham in 4th.
With many teams above and around them dropping points throughout December, even the 5 single points from 5 matches has kept them right amongst it going into the New Year.
West Ham have found goals hard to come by lately but their 2 against the Saints on Monday, earning them their first win in 2 months will have boosted their confidence, as will the return from injury of Payet, Reid and Moses.
Liverpool sit in 7th place and have won their last 2 league games against Sunderland and Leicester, both 1-0. Things have certainly improved under Jurgen Klopp but the Reds still have a way to go to start being taken seriously as title contenders.
This season’s BPL however, has been strange to say the least and is still wide open, leaving Liverpool with a very realistic chance of a top 4 finish.
I fancied Liverpool against Sunderland on Wednesday but was put off by the short price. Their price of 2.05 this Saturday is also on the short side, especially after seeing their performance against the Mackems and against a very capable West Ham side that have already beaten Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield this term.
The Hammers are certainly the value at 4.05 and can be backed on the Asian Handicap betting market +0.5 at 1.90.
There is also some value in the goals market. Four of Liverpool’s last six and five from six of West Ham’s matches have all seen less than 3 goals. Both sides are also struggling to score more than once in a game with the Hammers only managing it once in 9 and the Reds once in 7. Under 2.5 goals can be backed at 1.80 which is a big price looking at the recent trends.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: West Ham +0.5 at 1.90 and Under 2.5 goals at 1.80
