Watford v Crystal Palace – Vicarage Road at 12:30 live on Sky Sports 1
Watford host Crystal Palace on Boxing Day in the early televised kick-off, which is the focus of my latest Азиатский гандикап preview.
Both teams suffered defeats last weekend and will be looking to bounce back with a win.
On Thursday evening The Eagles were dealt another blow however, with the sacking of Alan Pardew. Sam Allardyce is favourite to take over as boss and his appointment is expected within the next 24 hours.
As for Monday’s game, I’m expecting an entertaining encounter with several goals and there looks to be value on the overs market.
There seems to be an unpredictability about Watford this season, as you don’t know what team is going to turn up!
Walter Mazzarri’s side have impressed on occasions, such as their 3-1 victory over Manchester United, but other times they’ve been very poor.
Watford lost twice in 3 days away to Manchester City (2-0) and most recently Sunderland (1-0) and they’ll be wanting to get back to winning ways on home soil.
Last weekend’s defeat against Sunderland was disappointing, as despite dominating for vast periods of the game, they failed to find the net. The Hornets need to be more clinical in front of goal.
On a more positive note, Watford’s home form is considerably better than their away form. The Yellows’ have won 4 of their last 6 matches at Vicarage Road and have only lost once during that period (1-0 defeat to Stoke City).
Their impressive home form has meant that they are still in a decent position in the league – 12th in the table.
However, Watford have only won 1 of their last 5 games and are in need of some points to prevent sliding down a very tight table.
The home side have conceded at least 1 goal in 88% of their home matches and as they’ve shown to be poor defensively at times, I’m expecting Palace to get on the scoresheet.
Crystal Palace’s away form has been poor and they’re winless in 5 games away from Selhurst Park.
Last weekend The Eagles suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Chelsea and as a result, dropped further down the league table.
Palace are now 17th in the Premier League, just 1 point off the relegation zone and are in real danger.
The away side have lost their last 2 games against tough opponents (Manchester United and Chelsea) and they’ll be wanting to bounce back with a win against easier opposition.
Alan Pardew saw his side lose 10 times in the league this season, although there is still some optimism about, with the likes of Christian Benteke finally finding his feet.
The Belgian has scored 8 Premier League goals and is currently linking up well with Wilfried Zaha, who has also taken some big strides forward this campaign.
Zaha has 3 goals and 6 assists in the Premier League so far this season and Watford will need to keep close tabs on the pair.
Palace have scored in 88% of their away matches this season, including all of their last 7, which shows that the away side do possess a goal-scoring threat, despite their low league position.
Defensively is where Crystal Palace’s problems lie and they’ve conceded at least 1 goal in all of their away matches to date.
Asian Handicap and Total Goals
Watford are the 2.51 favourites to get the win on Monday.
As a result, the Asian line is set at -0.25 for a best price return of 2.15, but taking into account Watford’s unpredictability this season, I think there is better value to be had elsewhere.
Palace’s last 4 games on the road have seen 26 goals hit the back of the net and as Watford have scored in all but 1 of their home games this season, over 2.5 goals at 2.10 looks a decent bet.
Азиатский гандикап Recommendation: Over 2.5 goals at 2.10
