Veikkausliiga Asian Handicap Preview – Thursday 15th October

Ilves v VPS – How are Ilves without Armstrong?

Head coach of Tampere Ilves, Keith ‘Keke’ Armstrong, got fired after a scandalous absence from Ilves’ previous game. Armstrong, originally from Tyneside, is an expert commentator for the Finnish TV-company broadcasting Barclay’s Premier League and chose to attend the studio instead of his own team’s game. Yes, really.

The visiting team VPS are distracted by an unsure future. Only a handful of players have a contract for next year, thus the motivation for players to avoid relegation is questioned. Due to youth national teams being on road, 2й goalie Markus Uusitalo, wingers Pyry Soiri and Eero Tamminen are doubtful to return to Finland in time. Same issue is concerning the two Jamaicans Andre Clennon and Hughan Gray.

With VPS still fighting for another year in Veikkausliiga, home team Ilves are looking for a chance to grab the 6го spot and an additional home game for 2016.

In addition to VPS’ international players, Denis Abdulahi and Mikko Viitikko are still likely to be out due to injuries. Ilves’ top scorer Mika Lahtinen is suspended

Ilves aren’t exactly depending on Lahtinen for goals though. VPS’ absences are remarkable especially in offense.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Ilves +0.25 at 1.78

Inter v Jaro – Con te partiro?

A disappointing cup final loss raised the Inter fans’ hopes of sacking Dragtsma. Winning side IFK Mariehamn’s Pekka Lyyski announced to exit the team after a 13 year long service, the longest in Veikkausliiga. Dragtsma will take Lyyski’s throne next season, unless Veikkausliiga’s own Arsene Wenger is sacked.

Speaking of uninspiring coaching, Jaro chief Alexey Eremenko Sr. has received a surprising amount of critique this autumn. While Dragtsma has nearly maximized the talent of his rather restricted squad, the same cannot be said about Eremenko. The reds from Pietarsaari are on a 9 game long winless streak.

Inter’s Guy Gnabouyou and Petros Kanakoudis are suspended. Reginaldo Jr. and Alexey Eremenko Jr. are suspended for Jaro.

Jaro have been here so many times before, and always survived. But has it ever been in such desperate situation as now? 9 games without a win has to end some day, and an unmotivated Inter gives them a great chance.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Jaro +0.5 at 1.98

HIFK v FC Lahti – Clash of fans?

This is not a regular match between two teams, who have almost nothing to play for (ok, Lahti has a slight chance for bronze, but is anyone keeping up those hopes?). This is a big game for the supporters of Lahti and HIFK. The two cities hate each other, and both teams have somewhat notorious supporter groups.

HIFK coach Jani Honkavaara has motivated his squad by swearing to bike home from Lahti, or run home from Sonera stadium, that is, if his lads grab a win. Is it starting to become and old trick now?

Toni Korkeakunnas is another coach (besides Dragtsma) wished to be seen gone by next season. In all honestly he failed to succeed now that he got his chance in building his own team. From last year’s 3й spot to a 4го or 5го is extra bad considering the almost historically low quality of Veikkausliiga this year. However, Mika Ääritalo has finally found a better form.

No major injuries in HIFK, but U21-internationals Fredrik Lassas, Sauli Väisänen, Youness Rahimi and Nnaemeka Anyamele are highly doubtful. Lahti are missing no one.

Last meeting in Lahti ended in a gruesome away win, when it was the least expected. However, this time I can’t see HIFK surprising Lahti.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Lahti +0.25 at 1.66
