Vasco de Gama V Bahia – Sao Januario at 20:30
We have a great game to look forward to on Saturday evening in Brazil’s second division as Vasco da Gama host Bahia 8:30PM kick off GMT.
Having been relegated last season the onus was firmly on Vasco to start the season brightly in the quest of fulfilling their potential this season and winning the league to get the club back to where they feel that they belong.
It seemed like Vasco were handed a tricky start to the season with trips to Sampaio and Vila Nova pencilled in between a home fixture with Tupi, three games later and three clean sheets later and Vasco are currently sitting pretty at the top of Brazil’s second division with nine points out of a possible nine.
Bahia will fancy their chances of getting one of the four automatic promotion spots this season and they’ve also started the season brightly, picking up seven points in their opening three games. Bahia will have one of the strongest home records in the league this season, but I expect them to come up short in a few of their away games when playing out of Salvador, just like they did in Serie A last campaign.
I expect Bahia to come into this game and play a 4-3-1-2 formation as they look to press Vasco high up the pitch, this game has every chance of being an open encounter.
The key man this game will be Thiago Ribeiro who will lead the line for Bahia, the ex Santos and Atletico MG forward will also drop in between the lines to collect the ball and attempt to drive at the Vasco back line.
I think that Vasco’s defence is too strong and I fully expect them to pick up another clean sheet here, they have enough about them to snatch a goal especially against a Bahia side that will be attempting to squeeze them high up the pitch.
