UFC 209 Betting Preview – Sunday 4th March By @J_RKeith

UFC 209 – T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas at 01:00 live on BT Sport 2

Here we go! Tyrone Woodley v. Stephen Thompson in their epic rematch as one of them will be walking away with the UFC Welterweight title after their controversial draw in New York back in November. But it’s just not that bout we are looking forward to as we are expecting an epic night in Las Vegas on Sunday!

Alistair Overeem v. Mark Hunt – 03:00

The event kicks off with Brit Alistair Overeem taking on the Super Samoan Mark Hunt in a Heavyweight bout.

I’m looking forward to this fight mainly because they are two powerful hitters who will not let this fight go down to a decision. Hunt’s last fight was against Brock Lesnar, who was overruled his win due to drug taking, leading to the New Zealander going on to suing the UFC. But that’s a whole different story that!

Meanwhile, Overeem recently lost to champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 203; losing in the first round through TKO, but what doesn’t help heading into this fight is that ‘The Demolition Man’ has been nicknamed glass chin.

Reem’s record, however, cannot be judged. 41 wins and 15 losses with a 60% strike rate leaves him as a great battler. One thing is that Hunt is no pushover with 33 professional fights under his belt, but he stands six inches smaller than his opponent, with an eight inch smaller reach.

These two have met before, to which Overeem won back in Japan in 2008; a submission in the first round securing the victory.

I’m backing Overeem for this opener at UFC 209! The Brit can keep his distance and manage Hunt with his reach and power. I’ll say if the 36-year-old can get Hunt down on the canvas the win should be his.

Betting Recommendation: Alistair Overeem to win by KO, TKO, Submission or Disqualification at 2.20

Tyron Woodley v. Stephen Thompson – 05:00

It’s time for the main event! Tryon Woodley will take on Stephen Thompson in a highly anticipated rematch after their first bout at UFC 205 ended in a majority draw for the Welterweight title!

Heading into this bout, both fighters are showing cockiness and have the proven skill to win this fight as there isn’t much difference between the two. But one thing I think you have to consider from the first fight is that Woodley hit cleaner and better shots than ‘The Wonderboy’.

Twice ‘The Chosen One’ put Thompson down on the mat, yet he couldn’t finish him off. This match-up might be different though, the 34-year-old has a record of 16 wins from 20 bouts winning six through KO.

You could say that Thompson lands more strikes and absorbs more at the same time, yet the champion has a better accuracy and defence in striking and takedowns.

With Thompson, you have a quality fighter in someone who can turn a match on its head with his creative style through a variety of kicks.

Holding a record of 13 wins from 15 fights and winning seven through KO, the 34-year-old will need to really turn up his style and keep Woodley at bay and not let him set off with his powerful body punches that has taken out the likes of Robbie Lawler.

This is going to be one interesting fight, but I reckon Woodley will retain the title. Thompson will do his best to stop Woodley gaining that momentum in his punches, but there is more to the champion’s game. Yet, one clean hit from Woodley and challenger may need to rethink his game plan.

Betting Recommendation: Tyron Woodley to win by KO, TKO, Submission or Disqualification at 3.25
