FC Basel v Trabzonspor
Basel are already through to the knockout phase of the Europa League. The Swiss side currently sit on 10 points whilst Getafe and Krasnodar are on 9 points each, however those two play each other and with Basel’s superior head to head record they will go through no matter the outcome of what happens in Southern Madrid.
With that in mind, their home match with already eliminated Trabzonspor becomes a bit of a dead rubber and both sides can rest and rotate. Of course, the hosts would love to claim top spot but it’s not the end of the world if they don’t. With the RotBlau trading as short as 1.200 in a game they don’t have to win in order to qualify I think there could be some wriggle room to get against them on the asian handicap lines.
Trabzonspor have been disappointing this campaign, particularly at their home on the Black Sea where they’re so usually dominant. They do have quality within their ranks though and may be well suited to playing with the pressure off them.
The visitors aren’t in bad nick either with four wins out of their last 6 in all competitions. They can play their part here and not be embarrassed. Well known faces such as Daniel Sturridge and John Obi-Mikel are among the squad and with the pace of Anthony Nwakaeme on the break and big Alexander Sorloth bringing some physicality at the top of the pitch I think they could at least score at St Jakob Park on Thursday night.
I think it’s a bit of a stretch to get anywhere near a reasonable price on the hosts on the handicap so I’ll take the competitive 1.850 quotes on Trabzon with a +2 start. This selection would only see us lose if Basel won by 3 or more goals with our stakes returned should they win by exactly 2 goals and a winner if the visitors do any better than that.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Trabzonspor +2.00 at 1.850
Rennes v Lazio
Lazio are in a must win scenario here as they travel to Brittany to take on already eliminated Rennes. One thing the Italians have in their favour is a winning run stretching the past 7 games, they’re scoring plenty and will be full of confidence.
A monumental 3-1 victory over Juventus in Rome has put them right in contention for a tilt at the Serie A title and Simone Inzaghi is doing a splendid job at the capital club. Star striker Ciro Immobile is bagging for fun and averaging better than a goal per game, should he start here the Biancocelesti have every chance of coming back with a victory and possible qualification.
They do need Celtic to do them a favour and dispatch Cluj in Romania to do so but that should mean they go out for the win here. That could leave gaps for Rennes to possibly exploit on the break so I’m expecting goals here.
I’m surprised we can get some 1.980 on over 2.5 goals, I expected this line to be at least 2.75 in all honesty. Looking at the respective results of the pair and this bet has landed in a combined 10 of their last 12, a very high strike rate. Both teams have managed to get on the scoresheet in their past 6 games respectively too so they’re not shy in front of goal.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.50 goals at 1.980
Getafe v Krasnodar
I’m inclined to go against a goal heavy game in a crunch game in group C though as Getafe welcome Krasnodar to the Colosseum.
One of these two will go through to the knockout stages but it is in Getafe’s hands. If it ends all square here the pair will be on the same amount of points but since Geta won the reverse leg they will progress due to a superior head-to-head record over the Russians.
I expect a defensive and safety first approach from the Spanish side here, compact and organised out of possession. Under the well-thought of Jose Bordalas the Madrid-based side are used to doing the dirty work well and everyone knows their role in the side making them an ever so tough opponent to face.
Krasnodar on the other hand have to win this, but given they’re away from home I think they’ll be happy if the game is even with around half an hour to go. With that in mind I’m happy to take the 1.870 on under 2.5 goals.
There has been fewer than 3 goals in 5 of the last 6 Krasnodar games and 4 of the last 6 Getafe game so both tend to operate with a more defensive approach and like to keep games tight. That train of thought is only boosted by the probable game state of this clash.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Under 2.50 goals at 1.870
