Toulouse v Reims – Stadium TFC at 14:00 GMT
Toulouse’s inconsistent campaign took another turn last weekend as Les Pitchouns became the first side to suffer defeat away to Monaco. Alain Casanova’s charges were second-best in the first 45 minutes despite heading into the level at 1-1 thanks to captain Christopher Jullien’s equaliser.
Monaco took a firm grip on proceedings when retaking the lead soon after the hour mark, although Les Violets fought their way back into the contest. Toulouse have a reputation as fighters under Casanova, and showed why as they spent the rest of the match testing the home side’s mettle.
In the dying embers, Jimmy Durmaz hit the post, Max-Alain Gradel threatened with a header and Corentin Jean almost forced an own-goal from Benoit Badiashile, as TFC were unable to break the hosts’ resistance. The result leaves Toulouse entrenched in mid-table and eight points above the drop-zone.
Reims continue to rise
Reims were runaway champions in Ligue 2 last term and returned to the top-flight for the first time since 2015/16. Stade’s success was largely built upon an excellent defence as they conceded only 29 times in their 38 matches and they’ve continued their well-organised under David Guion since promotion.
Reims’ efforts were epitomised last weekend when the relative minnows toppled big-spending Marseille at their atmospheric Stade Auguste Delaune base. A victory means that Stade head into the weekend only three points shy of the top four following a fabulous start that’s seen Guion’s group beaten only five times.
The Champagne side are likely to be broken up in the summer, but with youngsters such as Remi Oudin and Mathieu Cafaro finding their feet, Reims remain a compelling side to watch at the moment and look well worth supporting on Sunday with a +0.25 start on the Азиатская фора line at 1.73.
The betting angle
As already mentioned, Reims have only been beaten five times – three of which came against teams occupying berths in the top-five. Indeed, the competitive guests have only twice been beaten since September, whilst this selection has made money from the promoted club in 18/23 (78%) Ligue 1 outings.
Only four teams have scored more than a solitary goal against Reims this season and Toulouse head into this showdown having claimed only six victories in 2018/19, including taking maximum points just twice this term. Meanwhile, since the September international break, Les Pitchouns have scored twice or more on only four occasions.
