Tippeligaen Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Monday 16th May by @meatmansoccer

Tromso v Bodo Glimt

Ahead of this Northern derby Tromso have been suffering with a number of injuries. Right back Hans Norbye, midfielder Christian Landu Landu + strikers Espejord & Ingebrigtsen are all rated doubtful. Morten Gamst Pedersen is definitely ruled out. Important striker Sofiene Moussa will at least return from suspension. For Tromso, their season has been rather up and down. It’s clear they are going to be one of the strugglers this year but they have an ability to grind out results and keep it tight at the back. TIL have only lost one home game all season and that was against Rosenborg so no disgrace. A near (and rare) capacity crowd will be at the Alfheim Stadion for this affair.

Bodo come into the game winless in seven Tippeligaen fixtures. They did at least manage to end their six game losing streak last time out by drawing with Valerenga 0-0, but overall things have been very poor for Bodo recently. This is a team clearly lacking confidence at both ends of the field and they desperately need a victory. The visitors like to sit back, soak up pressure and then hit teams on fast counter attacks. That tactic simply hasn’t been working recently due to poor finishing. The Bodo squad has been in fairly good condition with their only injuries long term. There have been few excuses in this department, just poor performances.

The Tippeligaen 16th May round is known as ‘football day’ in Norway. It’s the sort of day when much bigger crowds are out in force and that should certainly be the case for this northern derby. Both sides hate each other and there’s a massive rivalry between the two. Expect a high level of commitment and strong tackling in all areas of the field. In terms of match result I personally favour Tromso. They are at home, in slightly better form and I think there’s a good chance they’ll keep a clean sheet here. Bodo have only scored one goal in their last four games and have looked fairly toothless recently. I think the best bet for the match is under 2.75 goals. I’m surprised this goal-line is so high for a Tromso fixture. They are one of the few Norwegian teams who have consistent under games with 7 of their 10 matches ending that way so far this season. In what is likely to be a tight and nervy derby match in which neither want to lose, under 2.75 looks a good bet.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Under 2.75 goals at 1.88

Rosenborg v Lillestrom

Rosenborg are four points clear after having won 8 of their 10 matches this season. In their previous match I have to say they weren’t particularly convincing away at Start, only prevailing thanks to a couple of late goals. Many people expected them to thrash the bottom side but overall it was a below par performance. That’s RBK for you though. They will often get the required result when not playing at their best. I would fully expect them to be on top form today though. In front of their own fans on ‘National football day’ all of the players are sure to raise their levels. There’s still some doubt over the fitness of key winger Pal Andre Helland but the rest of the squad is in excellent condition.

Lillestrom have been one of the better teams so far this season and their seventh position is no fluke. LSK have some good quality players in their ranks, especially in the final third. Guys like Fred Friday, Erling Knudtzon & Mohamed Ofkir have been playing some good stuff this year and the visitors have plenty of threat upfront. LSK showed their promise by beating Odd 3-1 away from home a few weeks ago, although were outplayed by Godset in their last road outing (1-3). The squad is healthy and they have few concerns injury wise. It’s possible LSK might be a bit daunted by a trip to Rosenborg but I imagine they’ll be quite positive.

I think this is going to be a really high energy, high tempo affair with lots of chances. A big and noisy crowd will be inside the Lerkendal Stadion to cheer their respective sides on ‘National football day’ so I’d expect both teams to be really up for it. Chances are that Rosenborg will dominate and probably win. They have owned LSK in recent years, winning the last six H2H meetings, most of them by a clear margin. I wouldn’t want to put off RBK -1.5 handicap backers but Lillestrom did beat Odd and Godset needed a late goal to beat them by a two goal margin a couple of weeks ago. I think a better bet is over 3 goals. The strength of Lillestrom is upfront and I think someone like Fred Friday could possibly score for them here. At very least there should be three goals scored, which would yield a push. But recent Rosenborg home matches have all contained a lot of goals and we could see the back of the net get hit on numerous occasions.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Over 3 goals at 1.91
