Villa Park – 24го November at 20:00
It’s been 72 long days since Aston Villa last registered a victory and will need something special if they are to overcome that depressing statistic this evening. They host Southampton at Villa Park, who sit 2nd in the League looking to narrow the gap to four points behind Chelsea.
Aston Villa’s recent form is abysmal, losing 6 from their last 7 and only managing a draw in the other. In fact, in those 7 matches they have only managed to score once. With Benteke suspended and injuries to Vlaar, Senderos, Baker and Delph, things are not looking good for the Villains. They have failed to score in 60% of their home games and have conceded at least 1 in 80% matches at Villa Park.
In stark contrast, the Saints are the Premier League’s best defence only conceding 5 goals all season. Southampton have won their last 4 straight matches not conceding once. Tadic and Schneiderlin will face late fitness tests after international duty and Saint’s fans will hope they are fit to join Forster and Pelle who are their four standout players. Southampton have won all 8 of their matches they have gone ahead in this season as Villa have lost all 5 games they have gone behind.
Everything points to a Southampton win to nil which is priced up at 2.8 which I think is good value. Southampton’s next 3 fixtures are Man City, Arsenal then Man Utd so Koeman will expect nothing less than a strong performance and win here to keep their confidence high before tougher up-coming fixtures. With that in mind, Southampton -0.75 @ 1.98 on the Asian Handicap is my advised trade.
