TIMBERWOLVES V SPURS
Minnesota got thrashed by Philadelphia at Wells Fargo Center last Wednesday, when Joel Embiid scored 31 points and 13 rebounds to get ahead of the 15 points from Derrick Rose.
The Timberwolves were unfortunate that night; good thing though they were blessed with a relatively good form. They are only been defeated twice in their last six matches which include the defeat to the 76ers.
The other loss was a 119-115 fall to Dallas last Saturday at Target Center, where Karl-Anthony Towns made 30 points, but not enough to frustrate a Wolves defeat and the 29 points from the Mavericks’ Luka Doncic.
Nevertheless, the Wolves are hot with wins over the likes of Thunder and Lakers.
Last week, Minnesota stunned the Los Angeles Lakers at Target Center, where Towns made 28 points complemented by another 28 points from Andrew Wiggins to dominate over the 14 points from Lance Stephenson.
The Wolves also stunned Oklahoma City last week at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Wiggins made a season-high 40 points and 10 rebounds in that night to top the 27 points from a lousy Paul George.
At the start of the current league season, people expected Minnesota to be one of the major forces in the Western conference. The Wolves, however, could not catch up with the expectations, currently occupying the 11th spot in the conference.
The Wolves will be hosting the Spurs on Saturday, and this game will be one of Minnesota’s chance of gaining more momentum to springboard themselves to the West’s top ten.
Sitting sixth in the Western Conference, San Antonio are no easy rivals though.
The Spurs are also known to be stunners, having beaten the likes of Oklahoma City, Boston, Toronto, Denver, and LA Clippers in the season.
In Friday last week, San Antonio made a 154-147 win over Thunder at AT&T, where LaMarcus Aldridge made an unbelievable career-high 56 points to overcome the triple-double from Russell Westbrook and 30 points from Paul George.
The Spurs are weak though in away games with a record of 8-14, while the Wolves are 15-7 in home games – one of the reasons why tipsters are giving a line of Minnesota -1 to Over/Under 225.
TRAIL BLAZERS V PELICANS
The Pelicans will fly to Portland on Saturday, bracing for a tough and rough game from the Trail Blazers.
New Orleans’ defeat to the the Warriors are still fresh as it just happened last Thursday at Oracle Arena. Stephen Curry made 41 points that night Anthony Davis scored 30 points. It was a memorable night for the Golden State guard as he shot nine 3-pointers in the match to become the first player in the league history to make over eight 3-pointers in three straight games.
The Pelicans’ form is not bad though with only two losses across their last six games.
New Orleans had a 121-117 victory against LA Clippers at Staples Center, where Davis made 46 points and 16 rebounds complemented by the 27 points from Julius Randle to dominate over the 26 points from Montrezl Harrell.
On the other hand, Portland are victorious in their latest match with Cleveland last Thursday at Moda Center. Damian Lillard made 33 points, to which Jusuf Nurkic added a triple-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists to top the 22 points from Jordan Clarkson. The ended in a 129-112 Trail Blazers domination over the Cavaliers.
Portland also had their share of losses.
The Trail Blazers lost to Sacramento last Tuesday at Golden 1 Center, where Buddy Hield made 19 points while De’Aaron Fox made 16 points with a crucial 3-pointer at 1:30 remaining to beat the 35 points from Lillard.
Portland also lost to the Nuggets 113-116 last Monday at Pepsi Center.
Nonetheless, the Trail Blazers are one of the top teams in the West at the 4th spot, and beating the likes of Houston Rockets and Golden State in the season.
Portland are given a line of -3 to Over/Under 233.5.
CLIPPERS V WARRIORS
People are excited about the most anticipated debut of DeMarcus Cousins as player of the Golden State Warriors. There has been mix emotions about the image of Cousins playing side-by-side Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson.
Coming fresh from recovery, Cousins is expected to play this coming Saturday In the Golden State’s match with the LA Clippers at Staples Center.
The Warriors had just made themselves the new occupiers of the topmost spot of the Western Conference after defeating the Nuggets last Wednesday. It was not just a defeat for Denver, but heaving thrashing for a team in their standing from the Golden State.
The Warriors sure are eager to preserve their standing in the conference by unleashing Cousins for their games in the rest of the season.
The Golden State indeed had been unstoppable lately, flexing a six-game winning streak and had been defeated only once in their last nine games.
With an opening line of -6 for the Golden State, we are expecting war-freak Warriors with no mercy on Saturday.
The Clippers, on the other hand, are in a spell of a really bad form with a four-game skid.
Last Thursday, LA lost to Utah at Staples with one of the worse tallies possible at 129-109. The 23 points from Lou Williams was not able to hold the 28 from Donovan Mitchell that night.
The Clippers also fell into a 104-109 loss to Detroit last Sunday. Blake Griffin dominated with 44 points to top the 23 from Danilo Gallinari.
Losses to the Denver Nuggets 121-100 and New Orleans 121-117 also tell that so far LA can not hold hottest teams in the league.
With the Boogey expected to be out on Saturday, one could imagine LA making a clipping sound at Staples.
