Nantes v Rennes – Stade de la Beaujoire at 14:00 GMT
Nantes have just one win in their last five home games, but that victory was an entertaining 3-2 over Marseille. They also restricted PSG to just a 1-0 win in their last match before the international break.
Rennes are in a hot run of form and have won their last six games in all competitions. These results have lifted them to eighth in Ligue 1, taken them through to the next round of the Coupe de France and seen them qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Nantes not quite hitting the heights
After a flying start to last season under Claudio Ranieri, many Nantes fans were hoping for a finish in a European place. But after a stuttering second-half to the season, Les Canaris finished in 10го place and Ranieri left the club at the end of the campaign. Current Nantes manager Vahid Halilhodzic has failed to start as brightly as Ranieri, with his side just four points clear of the relegation zone.
Nantes’ games tend to see goals, with 15/17 (88%) seeing Over 1.5 Goals and 10/17 (59%) seeing Over 2.5 Goals in Ligue 1 this season. Their games are averaging 3.13 goals at home this season and have scored 14 goals in their last five games at Stade de la Beaujoire.
Emiliano Sala has been linked with various Premier League clubs so far this January, with the Nantes forward reportedly turning down an approach by Cardiff. The Argentine has 12 goals in Ligue 1 this season and it would be no surprise to see him bag another one on Sunday.
Rennes entertaining in Ligue 1
Rennes have scored at least one goal in every away game they’ve played this season, bagging 14 goals in nine games. Over 1.5 Goals has landed in all of their games away from home, with Over 2.5 landing in 7/9 (78%) of these matches. They’ve also seen three or more goals in 10/18 (56%) of their Ligue 1 matches – home and away – this campaign. Dull games are hard to come by when Les Rouges et Noirs are concerned, this season.
Their goals tend to be spread out across the squad, but the exciting duo of Ismaila Sarr and Hatem Ben Arfa have struck nine goals between them. Former Newcastle man Ben Arfa has rediscovered his best form whilst being back in France and, despite only starting nine games this season, he’s proved to be a crucial player for Rennes.
Clearly, I like the look of goals in this game and you can get 1.93 on Over 2.25 Goals on the Asian goal line. This means that two goals would see a half loss, but three or more would land us a winner, and with both teams frequently involved in high-scoring games, I think the price you’re getting on this is more than generous.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.25 goals at 1.925
