M’gladbach v Manchester City Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Wednesday 30th September by @DarkDyson

Borussia Monchengladbach v Manchester City – Borussia Park at 19:45 live on BT Sport 2

Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City are already facing another year of Champions League misery, after their opening day defeat at home against Juventus.

Yet again the unlucky Citizens landed in what looks like another group of death with double Europa League winners Sevilla and Monchengladbach completing a very competitive and aptly titled, Group D.

However, even with the loss of several star names over the summer at Juventus, last season’s runner up could still be considered City’s toughest opponents in the group stage.

Plus, with just one game played, all is not lost and although there are no easy away games in the Champions League, tonight’s trip to Gladbach is a great chance for Pellegrini’s men to get their campaign back on track.

A key reason behind this looking like a good chance for City, is that Gladbach are in disarray this season. Having finished third last year and gaining automatic entry into these group stages of the competition, much was expected of Lucien Favre’s team this term.

However, after losing six of their first seven games in all competitions, Farve decided enough was enough and he resigned from his position as manager after four years in charge. The shock departure of their manager at such an early stage of the season, was a huge blow to the club but the team have now won both games since he left.

When you combine the situation at Gladbach currently with their lack of Champions League experience, it is very difficult to assess their potential to cause an upset tonight against Manchester City.

But, fortunately for the Foals, City come into the match on a run of three defeats in four games and with a host of injuries to key personnel. Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala and Pablo Zabaleta are all either out of or are serious doubts to start tonight’s match.

This is along with the likes of Geal Clichy, Fabien Delph, David Silva, Wilfried Bony and Yaya Toure also potentially missing or facing late fitness tests. However, it is at the back where the real concerns lie, especially after Tottenham put four past them at the weekend.

Gladbach have racked up seven goals in their two recent wins and with the way English teams have been playing at this level for the past couple of seasons, the German side should be confident of causing some real problems for what will be a patched up City eleven.

My model price for this match which includes the potential absences from the City team, puts their price at 2.40 for the win. But, when looking at the current prices available in the market, City are as short as 1.94 to claim the three points!

Naturally, at with this price on the favourites, all the value in the market is on the home team who can be backed +0.5 at 1.96 on the Asian handicap market. But, are Gladbach really back to their best form of last season or were the two recent wins just a positive reaction to the change in manager?

Although, we do not have Champions League results to analyse for Gladbach, we know all about City’s troubles in this competition over the last few years. They have won just four of their previous eleven away trips at this level and with their current form and injuries, it seems unlikely that record will improve tonight.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Borussia Monchengladbach +0.5 at 1.96

Prices correct at the time of writing.
