Scotland v England – Betting Preview

Hampden Park – 18TH NOVEMBER AT 20:00

Tuesday evening will see the 112го match between Scotland and England, the oldest international fixture in the world and one of the biggest rivalries. First contested in 1872, (which finished 0-0) the rivalry has diminished slightly from the late 1970’s, especially since the annual fixture stopped in 1989, but every player in both the Scottish and English squads will be up for this one.

Scotland have made a strong start to their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign sitting in 3rd place of a very competitive group with 7 points. Their 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland last Friday night, described by Gordon Strachan as “a mesmerising spectacle” was hard fought with plenty of tenacious tacking, I expect similar from the Tartan Army this evening. Scotland will be without Darren Fletcher but welcome back James Morrison to training after missing the game with Ireland.

England have a 100% record from their first 4 games in their qualifying group and will be unlikely to ease up for this “friendly”. Joe Hart was allowed to return to Man City after the win over Slovenia which should see Fraser Forster start, returning to his old ground Celtic Park where he enjoyed a successful four years. Early reports also suggest that Ross Barkley and Saido Berahino could also start with Berahino impressing after scoring 11 goals for club and country this campaign.

This one is going to be tough to call. England have scored in each of their last 5 matches, but more impressively, Scotland have scored in their last 7 and not conceded in 4 previous home matches. If you’re feeling brave then Scotland are a very backable 3.8 to win the match, if you’re not as confident then backing Scotland +0.25 on the Asian handicap @ 2.09 will give you that piece of mind, as you will still get a return if they share the spoils.
