Golden State Warriors at Utah Jazz – EnergySolutions Arena at 02:00
Late on Monday night / Tuesday morning at 2am, the Golden State Warriors head to Utah to face the Jazz as the Warriors aim to continue their incredible season opening 18-0 run.
Make no mistake, this Golden State outfit is breathtakingly good. With records being broken in seemingly every game, there are just no weak links in this unit. Heading the list of superstars is 2014/15 MVP Steph Curry.
Curry continues to tear teams apart in each game he appears. With a season average 32 points, there isn’t a defence in the league that has found a way to slow him down. Possibly even more remarkable in the winning streak, is just how much rest the Warriors have been able to offer Curry.
In their Saturday night 120-101 demolition of the Kings, Curry flew out to 17 points in the first quarter before being allowed a lot of rest time, not featuring at all in the 4th quarter.
“I’m sure Steph doesn’t like it,” interim coach Luke Walton said. “But the coaching staff and the training staff, were thrilled to get him that rest.”
Wise words. The NBA season is long, and every team in the league will face roster challenges along the way. But the pace at which Golden State are able to blow opponents away has allowed then to rotate their bench, and keep the squad fresh.
Monday night’s opponents are the Utah Jazz (8-7) who have only a decent record at home. Comfortable wins against the likes of the Pelicans and Raptors have been balanced out with losses to the Thunder and Blazers. Despite the superb defensive efforts of Rudy Gobert (11 RPG season average), and their excellent defence in the paint (1st in the NBA allowing only 37 points per game) the movement and pace of the Warriors around the 3 point line is nigh on unstoppable. A strong paint defence is great, but if it’s non-stop rain from the 3-point line, it won’t make a huge amount of difference for the Jazz.
With 7 of the last 8 match ups going to the Warriors, an average winning margin of 16 points so far this season and Walton able to keep his side fresh, there are no realistic reasons not to expect anything different from the Warriors on Monday night.
A spread of -6.5 looks at least 3 or 4 points too conservative and the Warriors should be backed their white hot streak.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Golden State Warriors -6.5 at 1.95
