France v Albania – Stade Velodrome at 20:00 live on ITV
The host nation France, enter the second round of group matches tomorrow night against tournament outsiders and debutants Albania at the Stade Velodrome. The French came through the opening match of the tournament with 3 points thanks to a late Dimitri Payet late wonder strike, (see it here) to defeat Romania 2-1.
It was a nervous performance from Les Bleus which was expected, but they played well and getting their first win under their belt would have done them the world of good and as a result I expect them to be more settled for this match. Followers of my previews would have profited backing Romania +1.5 on the Asian Handicap betting market and Over 2.5 goals and I think there are goals in this one too.
Albania lost their opening match to Switzerland 1-0 and despite going down to 10-men after captain and centre half Lorik Cana was sent off, they still threatened the Swiss. Defensively they are pretty weak and against one of the best attacks in the tournament they will struggle but they do have pace going forward.
As mentioned in my France v Romania preview, Didier Deschamps side do have a weakness in defence and it showed in their opening game. Albania can’t afford another defeat here so have to come out and attack and will look to exploit the hosts weakness.
Albania will also bring some confidence into the match having beaten the French last June in their most recent encounter. They will also be aware that France have only managed 2 clean sheets in 17 matches in European Championship competition so will fancy getting on the score sheet.
France however, as hosts nation, having got their first win under their belt justify their very short price here and a comfortable win is on the cards.
The French put 2 past the Romanians without playing well, creating plenty of chances. Albania are weaker at the back thank Romania and without captain Lorik Cana, it will make their task even more difficult. I expect France to take the lead which will force Albania to attack and play more openly, leaving bigger gaps at the back.
The Asian Handicap betting line is set at France -1.75 here priced at 2.03. There are reports that Deschamps could rest some players here as it is the easiest game in the group and the fact they already have 3 points on the board. This doesn’t make me confident.
In their 3 previous meetings in France, Albania have conceded 9 times, scoring just once. Over 2.5 goals is the value here at 1.85.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Over 2.5 goals at 1.85
