Biggest summer transfers of 2019

European football’s giants have definitely been busy this summer. Check out the key transfers in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, and Bundesliga.

Premier League

With the English top flight just around the corner, they have definitely been very busy in the transfer window this summer. So far, the teams have been improving and further strengthening with the latest additions to their clubs.

Defending champions Manchester City have added Rodri to their turf. Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, secured the signature of Tanguy Ndombele. Arsenal will be bringing in star midfielder Dani Ceballos, who is in a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

Defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Swansea’s Daniel James will be joining Manchester United at Old Trafford next season.

Top-ranked teams Liverpool and Chelsea have been awfully quiet this summer, while the newly-promoted Aston Villa are obviously getting ready for the Premier League this season, being  the busiest club as they sealed eight new players to their territory.

La Liga

After a disappointing title race in Europe last season, Real Madrid spent more than £250M to sign Eden Hazard, forward Luka Jovic, defenders Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, and Rodrygo, who arrived after agreeing to a transfer deal last summer.

Barcelona also had their hands full as forward Antoine Griezmann heads to Camp Nou and sought-after midfielder Frenkie de Jong also arriving from Dutch club Ajax. Barcelona reportedly paid €120M to Atletico Madrid for Griezmann’s signature, but put in even more to prompt Joao Felix’s Benfica release clause.

Marcus Llorente also made the tough decision to join rival clubs Atletico Madrid from Real.

In Sevilla, sporting director Monchi has returned with a new set of arrivals which include forwards Munas Dabbur и Luuk de Jong, defenders Sergio Requilon, Jules Kounde, and Diego Carlos, attacking threats in the likes of Lucas Ocampos, Joan Jordan, and Oliver Torres, plus former Manchester City player Fernando.

Real Sociedad, on the other hand, have definitely made some interesting deals.  They brought in Martin Odegaard on loan and signed forwards Alexander Isak from Dortmund, and Portu from Girona. Forward Juanmi leaves Anoeta for Real Betis, who also managed to seal a solid deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Giovani Lo Celso.

Valladolid brought in forwards Sandro и Enes Unal on loan, while Alaves took in Lucas Perez from West Ham United, and Joselu from Newcastle.

Serie A

Of all the heavyweights in European football, Juventus seemed to have taken the cake from the summer transfer window. With all their new signings, they became a greater threat in the Serie A title race. Aaron Ramsey и Adrien Rabiot arrived in Italy as free agents.

Gianluigi Buffon will also be returning to Allianz Stadium after a year at Ligue 1 side PSG. Defenders Merih Demiral, Wesley, and Christian Romero also joined the club, with the latter going back to Genoa on loan.

Sampdoria took in Italy Under-21 keeper Emil Audero and Colombia defender Jeison Murillo. Their local rivals, Genoa, gathered 8 new signings after evading relegation. Torino, meanwhile, were able to seal permanent transfer deals for Ola Aina, Christian Ansaldi, and Simone Zaza.

Bologna brought out £40M so far this summer. They paid off loan-to-buy deals as well as recruiting Club Brugge defender Stefano Denswil along with Chievo’s Gambian winger Musa Juwara. Elsewhere, Brescia, Lecce, and Verona – the three recently-promoted sides – have completed 22 signings in total.

Changes are a force to be reckoned with at Bayern Munich. With Arjen Robben retiring and Franck Ribery also leaving, the German heavyweights have been busy with reinforcing their defence.

They signed French World Cup star players Hernandez и Benjamin Pavard even before the summer transfer window started. Hamburg striker Fiete Arp also joins the Bundesliga champions. However, other potential target which includes City’s Leroy Sane remains elusive.

Borussia Dortmund brought back star player Mats Hummels and were quick to sign defender Nico Schulz and attackers Julian Brandt и Thorgan Hazard, all three from local rival clubs.

Even though Bayer Leverkusen lost Julian Brandt, they did acquire PSG winger Moussa Diaby and Hoffenheim’s Kerem Demirbay. Eintracht Frankfurt, meanwhile, invested in Swiss midfielder Djibril Sow.

Djibril Sow’s teammate Kevin Mbabu signs with Wolsburg along with Austrian midfielder Xaver Schlager. Borussia Monchengladbach brought in forward Breel Embolo from Schalke, who in turn took in centre-back Ozan Kabak, Benito Raman, and accepted a loan deal for Jonjoe Kenny.

In the meantime, other clubs such as Monaco kept winger Gelson Martins and signed Montpellier goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte. Rennes reportedly paid £13.5M for a permanent deal for Senegal forward M’Baye Niang, and £9M for Angers winger Flavien Trait.

Nantes signed goalkeeper Alban Lafont on a two-year loan deal from Italian club Florentina, while Toulouse brought in Greek forward Efthymios Koulouris, who led Greece side PAOK to the title victory last season on a £3M worth of contract.
