Real Sociedad v Huesca – Anoeta Stadium at 17:30 GMT

Real Sociedad sacked head coach Asier Garitano just after Christmas following a run of four consecutive defeats. La Real were languishing in 15th place in La Liga following their dismal streak with Garitano, who was only appointed in the summer from Leganes, paying the price.

Club president Jokin Aperribay and Roberto Olabe, the director of football, took the decision following the squad reporting losing confidence in the boss. The Basques moved swiftly thereafter, appointing B team head coach Imanol Alguacil as his replacement after an encouraging spell at the back end of 2017/18.

The move certainly seems to have invigorated the Sociedad squad. La Real have since collected seven points from a possible nine, scoring seven goals and impressively (and deservedly) winning away at Real Madrid in Alguacil’s first fixture as the team’s permanent boss.

La Real fancied to see off strugglers

La Real now sit three points and one position off the European qualification places and should be fancied to enhance their recent record with a victory over rock-bottom Huesca on Saturday evening. The Basques can be backed with a -0.75 Asian handicap start at 1.83, a selection that would see us make money should the hosts pick up maximum points in San Sebastian.

Sociedad have W7-D4-L3 when entertaining bottom-half teams since the start of last season, scoring at least twice on nine occasions in that 14 match sample. The Basques are returning plenty of positive performance data numbers and can boast a W5-D4-L1 record across all venues against clubs in 12th and below.

Huesca heading straight back down

Huesca’s first ever campaign in the Spanish top-flight hasn’t yet gone to plan. Head coach Rubi was given the Espanyol gig in the summer and the inexperienced Leo Franco took charge. A five-point haul from their first eight games saw the Argentine axed with Francisco arriving in the hot-seat.

Results have barely improved since Francisco took charge with Huesca returning W1-D3-L7 since. The Aragon outfit are already 10 points from safety, losing 13 times in their last 18 matches, as well as being beaten in all eight of their 11 fixtures with top-half teams this term.

The away side have failed to score on nine occasions and only scored more than a solitary strike in five contests. That paltry effort in the final-third is likely to prove their undoing when travelling to San Sebastian on Saturday.
