Real Madrid v Tottenham – Allianz Arena, Munich at 17:15 live on Premier Sports
Real Madrid and Tottenham face each other tomorrow evening in the opening match of the Audi Cup friendly tournament hosted by Bayern Munich, who go up against AC Milan later in the day. Whilst pre-season friendlies are more to do with players fitness, there will be a lot of quality on display and some decent opportunities on the Asian Handicap betting markets.
It’s been a quiet pre-season so far for Tottenham, with their only official friendly coming against the MLS All-Stars in Colorado last week and it wasn’t the best of starts. They lost 2-1 to the weakened MLS elite side and it’s not a surprise they are big underdogs tomorrow night, priced at 9.0.
With their domestic season starting this Saturday, away to Man Utd, this tournament will be a good test for them but not all that good for their confidence.
Real Madrid however, are well in to their pre-season schedule having played in the International Champions Cup and don’t begin their domestic campaign until the 23rd August when they face Sporting Gijon.
Los Blancos’ summer has been a fairly successful one so far. They bounced back from a penalties defeat to Roma after drawing 0-0, with beating Man City 4-1 and defeating Inter 3-0. That was followed up with a penalties win over AC Milan after another 0-0.
Rafa Benitez will be under a lot of pressure as the new manager, after Carlo Ancelotti ended the season without a trophy. He will have been pleased with how his new side have performed since he took charge though, especially defensively, conceding just 1 goal in their 4 matches under his management. Although only friendlies, they can still boost a sides confidence and they will need to hit the ground running when their season starts to try an win back La Liga and Champions League titles from Barcelona.
Spurs have added 3 players this summer, Kevin Wimmer, Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier who look to be good additions to the squad. They have also got rid of a lot of players including, Kaboul, Paulinho and Capoue whilst there are rumours circulating that Adebayor and Soldado may be on their way out too and have not travelled to Munich.
It is reported that Real will be without Benzema and Ronaldo after picking up injuries in training but with the likes of Modric, Bale, Kroos, Rodriguez and Cheryshev, they should have no problem in attack.
Tottenham however are not as rich in talent as their opponents and rely heavily on Harry Kane for goals. Pochettino has only had one season at the Lane and has looked to improved things but they are still some distance of finishing in the Top 4 of the Premier League, let alone playing the likes of Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Real Madrid have covered their Asian Handicap in 2 of their 4 pre-season matches and have failed to score twice, which is surprising. Their defence has been solid though and I think they can keep a clean sheet tomorrow night.
Even without Ronaldo & Benzema, they should find a way to break through the Spurs back line and I make them good value to cover -1.5 at 2.21.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Real Madrid -1.5 @ 2.21
