Real Madrid v Eibar – Santiago Bernabéu at 15:15 GMT +1

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was in philosophical mood about his side’s season, following their dramatic 3-2 La Liga win against bottom of the table Huesca last weekend. The Frenchman oversaw his second successive win since returning to the Santiago Bernabeu and has been keen to look for positives.

Los Blancos are looking to end the campaign strongly despite being out of contention for any of the end-of-season trophies. Zidane admitted, “It has been a complicated season and we have had good times and bad. We played well in parts but there’s plenty of improvement required as we look to 2019/20”.

Coming into the midweek round of league fixtures, the capital club remained two points behind city rivals Atletico in third as we approach the final furlong. And while the mood has noticeably lifted around the current European champions, it’s true too that Los Blancos have rarely convinced this season.

Madrid have W10-D1-L4 at the Bernabeu on La Liga duty with seven of those successes arriving by at least a two-goal margin. However, Los Blancos have laboured for the majority of those matches, only clinching comfort in the dying embers of encounters through flashes of individual brilliance.

Eibar expected to give Madrid a workout

Plucky Eibar remain plonked in mid-table of La Liga having taken top honours in only eight matches in 2018/19. Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men have suffered only five defeats since October, mind, and remain one of Spain’s trickiest tests with just four of their season-long league losses arriving by a two-goal margin.

Only Athletic have conceded as few shots from inside the penalty area as the Basque minnows, whilst Eibar also feature prominently amongst the division’s best defences when it comes to comparing Expected Goals (xG) and xG from open play. Such numbers suggest Mendilibar’s troops can stay competitive here.

The pre-match markets make Eibar a 1.75 shot with a +2 Asian Handicap start and there’s mileage in such quotes. This selection would see our stake returned should Real Madrid win by exactly two goals with a loss incurred only if Los Blancos ran out victors by a three-goal margin or better.

The hosts have registered triumphs by more than two goals on only four outings this term, two of which arrived way back in September. In contrast, Eibar have suffered just two losses by the same margin with Barcelona the only La Liga outfit doing so since October.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Eibar +2.00 at 1.750
