Liverpool v Wolves
Liverpool will be hosting the Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday for the last game of the season in the Premier League. This is probably the most crucial match for determining the winners in the Premier League. The Reds will have to secure the win here and hope that Manchester City drop some points when they meet with Brighton on the same day. If Man City fails to win against their respective opponents, the Reds will be crowned as the champions for the first time in the history of the competition. Meanwhile, the Wolves will finish at 7th place no matter the outcome of this match.
Jurgen Klopp and his men are currently having the best time of their lives. Immediately after their edgy performance at Newcastle over the weekend, they dominated La Liga side Barcelona in the Champions League, securing the spot in the competition’s final. The Reds now won eight league fixtures on the trot and have only lost once in the top flight so far this season. What’s more, they’ve been fantastic at Anfield this season too. Liverpool haven’t lost a single league fixture at home since April 2017 which is a piece of worrying news for the Wolves.
However, the Wolverhampton Wanderers aren’t their usual opponents. The newly promoted team have made a name for themselves as the dark horses in the Premier League. They secured the 7th place in the standings and a potential spot in the Europa League next season. What makes the Wolves an unusual team is their ability to come out victorious against the Big Six teams. They were able to beat the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester United in the top flight this season. Apart from this, they managed to beat Liverpool in the FA Cup.
It’s definitely hard to say which team will come out successful in this match. But with the home advantage, there’s a high possibility the Reds could claim the win here. Nuno Espirito Santo and his men shouldn’t be underestimated though; they were already able to show that they can beat several teams in the Big Six this season.
Brighton v Man City
One more victory could see Manchester City crowned as the Premier League champions for the second consecutive season, so they will have to make each minute count when they face Brighton in their last game of the Premier League this season. The Citizens are the heavy favourites to keep the Premier League crown they won last season after cruising past Leicester City on Monday. Pep Guardiola and his men will be desperate not to drop some points on Sunday if they don’t want Liverpool to stand a chance in claiming the trophy for themselves.
Chris Hughton and his men breathed a sigh of relief when they earned a point in their 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend. Brighton will be safe from relegation for another season, leaving them to play their part in one of the most crucial and intense Premier League title race in recent times. It shouldn’t come as a surprise if the Seagulls lose on Sunday since they will be coming up against a side like Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s men may not have been in their best form over the last weeks, but count on them to get the job done properly. On Monday, Vincent Kompany scored an outstanding scorcher from a distance to help the Citizens record their 13th Premier League victory on the bounce. Furthermore, they have a solid defence and remarkable attacking prowess to help them dominate Sunday’s opponents.
Coming up against a team like Manchester City will definitely be a tough challenge for Brighton. Furthermore, the Seagulls may be safe from being relegated this season but who’s to say they won’t be dropped next season? It’s obvious they’re in need of massive improvements and they will have to do so if they want to be relegated any time soon.
Tottenham v Everton
Tottenham Hotspur will be hosting Everton on the final day of their Premier League campaign on Sunday. The Spurs need to claim some points if they want to hold on to a top-four finish as they sit 3 points above Arsenal in the standings. Mauricio Pochettino and his men will be entering Sunday’s match in high spirits after securing a spot in the Champions League finals when they edged past Ajax in the semifinal.
The Spurs will need to put on a good show in their final league fixture if they want to stand a chance against Liverpool in the final of the UCL. Tottenham definitely had a great run this season. With the Champions League final looming, the team would definitely be invincible in confidence especially since they’ll be playing at home.
Basically, the Spurs have definitely been exceptional this season especially in European competitions, but their performances in the top flight have been anything but. They were able to win just three of their last 11 league fixtures and have lost a total of 7 times, which included losses to both West Ham United and Bournemouth. However, the Spurs have almost always won against Everton and could secure the victory here once again.
On the other hand, Everton have been enjoying a remarkable run as of late. Their most impressive improvement though is their solid defensive line. Their victory against Burnley over the weekend made it their 5th win from their last seven matches. Furthermore, they were also able to beat the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea in the process. The future is definitely looking good for Marco Silva and his men.
Things are looking more and more exciting as the Premier League campaign comes to an end. These last few fixtures are only a matter of who wants the title victory more?
