Premier League Match Previews – 3rd April Wednesday

Manchester City v Cardiff

Manchester City will be aiming to return to the top of the Premier League table when they host Cardiff City on Wednesday night. Pep Guardiola will definitely be pressured to put the team back at the summit despite their recent form. The visitors, on the other hand, faced a cruel defeat in the hands of Chelsea over the weekend.

Cardiff are now just five points above the safe zone at the 18th spot. With seven games left to play, Neil Warnock and his men still have a chance at survival if they’ll be able to come out victorious in those matches. It will obviously be a difficult task for them especially since they will be up against reigning champions Manchester City.

In the meantime, the hosts are still reeling from their away victory against a doomed Fulham when they enter the match against Cardiff. That win was City’s 7th victory on the bounce in the Premier League. They even managed to win 11 of their 12 previous league outings. The Citizens are even more striking at home, winning 15 of their 16 fixtures at the Etihad so far this season.

The Bluebirds aren’t really expected to put up a solid fight against City, despite their impressive performance against Chelsea. They were able to show that they have the capability to score goals against a top-ranked team. Furthermore, their form at the moment isn’t too bad either. However, with Manchester City’s form right now, it doesn’t seem quite possible that they will be losing to a side like Cardiff.

The visitors shouldn’t be underestimated though since a lot of strange yet thrilling things have already taken place in the Premier League. A huge battle will certainly take place between these two. Cardiff will be determined after Sunday’s frustrating defeat, while City won’t waste the chance to return to the top.

Tottenham v Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur will open the doors to their new stadium on Wednesday night when they welcome Crystal Palace for their Premier League clash. This will be one of the most anticipated matches and a crucial one at this point of the season. Mauricio Pochettino and his men are in need of points to remain in the top four, while the visitors will be aiming to stay above the drop zone.

The Spurs aren’t in great shape at the moment. They’ve seen their side fall apart in recent weeks. Their Premier League title hopes came to an end when they faced a 2-1 loss in the hands of Burnley in February. Apart from this, they failed to come out victorious in their last 5 Premier League fixtures. Tottenham are still at the 3rd spot but they’re just one point ahead of Chelsea.

On the other hand, Crystal Palace are looking quite good at the moment even though they sit on the 13th spot in the table. Majority of their slip-ups this season actually came from fixtures at home. Their record on the road, however, is a different matter. The Eagles currently have the 7th best away record in the Premier League, losing just once in their previous 6 trips on the road. Considering this, the visitors won’t be an easy team to overcome.

A victory seems to be on the cards for Tottenham. The hosts will most definitely be aiming to come out victorious on Wednesday night, especially with the top four spot on the line. However, they should also watch out for a team like Crystal Palace who are desperate to move farther away from the relegation line.

Chelsea v Brighton

Chelsea will be in high spirits after their controversial victory against Cardiff City when they host relegation strugglers Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday for their Premier League clash. Their win against Cardiff kept the Blues in close proximity for a spot in the Premier League top four. The visitors, on the other hand, are currently at the 15th spot, just five points above the drop zone.

Brighton will be entering this match fresh off a defeat to Southampton over the weekend. This loss ended their two-match winning run in the league. Furthermore, the Seagulls don’t really have an impressive record on the road which could make things difficult for them when they face a side like Chelsea who are striving at home so far this season.

To make matters worse, Brighton lost 10 of their 15 league fixtures on the road this season. Chris Hughton and his men only came out successful against the likes of Newcastle United, Huddersfield, and Crystal Palace. Furthermore, they haven’t managed to score a single point against teams from the top half of the table.

To say that the Blues are good at home will be an understatement. Despite encountering some inconsistencies this season, no one can doubt their performances at Stamford Bridge. They lost only one of their home fixtures this season, winning nine of their 15 games along the way.
