Tottenham v Southampton
Saturday’s 3-0 victory over this season’s surprise contenders Burnley gave Mauricio Pochettino’s men the perfect Christmas present. It came after the disappointing 4-1 loss to Manchester City in the previous match.
The Boxing Day clash against Southampton will be a good test for Pochettino, who will hoping to make it two wins in a row. He’ll also be hoping to get one over his former side, where Pochettino made such an impact.
For Southampton, it was another draw on Saturday. This time it was a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Huddersfield, but it meant 7 games without a win for Mauricio Pellegrino’s men. The Saints have not won a match since the 26th November, when they beat Everton 4-1.
It will be another tough day at the office for Southampton, and I’d fully expect Spurs to take the 3 points.

Liverpool v Swansea City
New Swansea City caretaker boss Leon Britton will have been really pleased with his side’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday. You’ve got to beat the teams around you, but given the context of the match and the fact that the Swans trailed, Britton will be pleased with the result.
You can’t imagine that he’s looking forward to this match. Liverpool at times can be rampant and, with Swansea’s evident defensive frailty, anything could happen here. On Friday night, Liverpool demonstrated the best and worst of their side. 3 goals scored away from home against Arsenal is superb, but they threw away a 2-0 lead thanks to their defensive mistakes.
Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to restore the festive cheer and to get things back on track here with three points against a struggling Swansea.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Liverpool – 2.50 at 2.210
Newcastle United v Manchester City
Rafa Benitez will be delighted with his side’s 3-2 win away from home against West Ham United on the weekend. Despite trailing after just 6 minutes thanks to a Marko Arnautovic strike, his side fought back to secure 3 valuable points.
This will be one of Benitez’s toughest tasks this season, though. Perhaps the tactical mastermind can be the man to finally suss out how to defeat Pep’s City side, though. Benitez has displayed his tactical prowess throughout his managerial career and will have been drilling his side in the best way to frustrate City.
Because that’s what it’ll take. Manchester City this season have been emphatic. They’re the best side in Europe and only a catastrophic collapse would cost them the Premier League title.
Bournemouth was the latest side to fall to Pep’s emphatic side. 4-0 was the score at the Etihad Stadium. Benitez will be studying that game and hoping his side can avoid the mistakes that Bournemouth made.
Despite Benitez’s tactical prowess, I can’t see his poor Newcastle side having enough to limit Manchester City’s chances on Wednesday.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Manchester City – 2.25 at 2.470
