Premier League Match Previews – 3rd March Sunday

Watford v Leicester City

Watford, after a series of remarkable victories, were put to test in midweek when they made a trip to Anfield only to have the misfortune of stumbling in front of league leaders Liverpool. They will be looking to bounce back from their humiliating 5-0 loss when they take on Leicester City at the Vicarage Road for their Premier League clash on Sunday. Watford will enter this match as the favourites to come out as winners.

Watford are actually having a pretty good campaign so far this season despite experiencing a rough patch along the way. Their defeat against Liverpool made their record to three losses from their previous 13 Premier League fixtures, with them coming out victorious in 5. Javi Garcia’s men are now seated at the 8th spot in the standings, levelled with the 7th placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. If the Hornets manage to add points to their tally and be placed at the 7th spot, it will be possible for them to secure a spot in the Europa League.

On the other hand, Leicester City are lagging behind their opponents. They are now at the 11th spot in the standings, five points behind Watford. Brendan Rodger’s men are without a win in seven of their previous eight matches, also losing six of those fixtures. Furthermore, they are winless in their previous four, and in seven of their previous 9 ties on the road. It’s obvious that the Foxes are having difficulties in terms of their defense. They haven’t had a clean sheet since the 1st of January, and only kept 4 on the road.

Leicester City will need to improve fast if they want to survive this fixture against a Watford side who have the home advantage and are currently in good form at home. They do have a good frontline though so it’s going to be an interesting tie between these two.

Fulham v Chelsea

Chelsea will be traveling to the Craven Cottage to face relegation strugglers Fulham for their Premier League clash on Sunday. Chelsea will be coming into this match in full confidence after recently cruising past Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-0 victory. Maurizio Sarri must be in high spirits after seeing his men come out victorious following a series of poor performances. The Blues are now just three points away from the fourth spot. This should be enough confidence-booster ahead of their trip to Fulham.

The Cottagers are in total hysteria as of now, looking resigned and accepting of what’s to come if they manage to slip-up once again. They are now on a disappointing streak of eight losses in nine of their matches which led to the sacking of Claudio Ranieri after just three months.

Fulham will be entering this match fresh off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Southampton, also a 3-1 loss to West Ham prior to their sacking at St. Mary’s Stadium. Fulham are now 10 points below the safe zone at the 19th spot. Their hopes of staying in the league will further be put to a halt when they face the now resurgent Chelsea.

Maurizio Sarri is definitely rejoicing after their victory against Tottenham. The Blues are now just two points below Manchester United at the sixth spot. If they manage to win this fixture against Fulham, they will be able to surpass United in the league standings. Chelsea had been having a rollercoaster campaign this season, encountering both highs and lows throughout.

The real problem for the Blues is their defensive ways, keeping just one clean sheet in their previous 8 matches on the road. However, with a struggling Fulham as their opponent, a victory seems to be on the cards for the visitors.

Everton v Liverpool

A tight match is on the cards between Everton and Liverpool. The 233rd edition of the Merseyside derby on Sunday absolutely promises to be an exciting affair. Liverpool will be making a trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton with only one thing in mind: a victory. The Reds will have to win every match they will be playing in the future in order for them to increase the gap between them and reigning Manchester City as well as claim the Premier League title victory.

Everton will probably have a hard time surviving Sunday’s match against Liverpool since Jurgen Klopp’s men will be entering this match fresh off the back of a 5-0 demolition of Watford on Wednesday night. The Reds are now a point above Manchester City in the Premier League table, and they will be looking forward to more boosts in their standings.

The Reds are the favourites to come out as winners in this match. The previous 18 Merseyside derbies have been without even a single Everton victory. With that, Everton would be hoping to put a dent on their rivals’ records on Sunday.

Everton’s performance so far this season has been average to say the least. They are currently seated at the 9th spot in the Premier League table, massive points away from their archrivals. Apart from this, the Toffees lost 8 of their previous 12 league fixtures. Even their attacking power seemed to have abandoned them as evident in their performances lately.

Marco Silva’s men did manage to thrash Cardiff City in a 3-1 victory despite their poor form. However, a side like Liverpool is a much different level compared to a team like Cardiff. It would definitely be more than interesting to see how Everton and Liverpool play against each other.
