Man Utd v Man City – Old Trafford at 16:00 live on Sky Sports 1
The Premier League’s headliner this weekend see’s the two Manchester clubs go head to head in what is expected to be a fiercely contested match with a lot of pride at stake. This is definitely the sort of contest we can find some value in, especially on the Asian Handicap betting market.
City have thrown away a 10 point lead over their rivals since January but have won their last 4 against Utd. City can become the first team ever to record 5 consecutive Premier League wins over the Red Devils today.
The Citizens come into the match in poor form, losing 3 of their last 5 league matches including defeats to Burnley and Crystal Palace last time out.
Man City have underachieved this season and it’s their lacklustre performances since the turn of the year which have caused this.
They were still in the hunt for the title after a fantastic December, earning 16 points from and possible 18, closing the gap on Chelsea in the process. They only managed 1 win in their first 5 games of 2015 though handing a significant advantage back to the Blues and the fight seems to be lacking from even their most experienced, reliable players. Kompany and Toure have not been at their best all season and now even Aguero has stopped scoring, not finding the back of the net in his last 6 appearances.
City are now 4th in the table and despite their poor form shouldn’t have any problem qualifying for the Champions League. They need to start showing some fight though and there is no better match to do that in than a Derby at Old Trafford. With nothing left but pride to play for, expect the noisy neighbours to come out fighting today.
In contrast Utd’s performances have got better as the season goes on. Ignoring their opening day loss to Swansea, their home form has been fantastic but the performances were not convincing.
Since their loss to Southampton back in January, they seemed to have clicked and now look a certainty for a top for finish. With just 1 loss in 10, since that defeat at St. Mary’s, including impressive wins over Tottenham and Liverpool, they go into the derby above City which was unthinkable at the turn of the year.
Utd have won their last 5 league matches and their last 5 on the bounce at Old Trafford. 9 of their 13 wins from 16 at home have been by 2 goals or more, including their last 5 in a row. They have the best home record in the league, earning 40 points from 48.
LVG will not only be trying to avoid a 5th straight loss to City for Utd, but he can inflict a 4th consecutive away defeat on their rivals, something they haven’t experienced since Stuart Pearce was manager back in 2006.
Current form and Utd’s record at Old Trafford makes the Red Devils favourites. I’m surprised they’re not shorter than the 2.65 available despite City’s recent head to head record.
City are the best team on paper but they’re just not playing well enough. They will raise their game but Utd will be confident, as am I, they can take all 3 points today and at 2.65 they represent value.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Man Utd -0.25 @ 2.21
