Everton v Sunderland – Goodison Park at 12:45 live at BT Sport 1
There’s now just four Premier League games left this season, so time is running out for teams at the bottom to avoid relegation and for Asian handicap betting professionals to squeeze every drop of profit out of another successful season of trading.
Roberto Martinez has struggled in his second season in charge of Everton, but with the weight of expectation after his impressive first season, combined with the demands of their Europa League campaign, taking another step up was always going to be a tall order this year.
However, with their European sojourn over the Toffee’s were free to rediscover their league form of last season and embarked on an impressive run of five wins and a draw from six games. That form saw them dispel and lingering relegation worries and has given them a very realistic chance of finishing in the top half of the table.
They did slip up at Aston Villa last weekend, but playing away against teams in the relegation dogfight is never easy, just ask Southampton who went down 2-1 at Sunderland on the same day. However, back at home in front of their own fans the Toffees will be keen to get back to winning ways.
They have won their last six matches at home in all competitions and have kept clean sheets in each of the last four as well. This is a tough trip for Sunderland to face at this stage of season, when their top flight status depends upon picking up four to six more points from their remaining four matches.
The Black Cats are trying to pull off yet another miraculous escape from relegation deep into the final few games of the campaign. Not only are they leaving it very late but, with three of their four remaining games away at Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea, they are going to have to do it the hard way.
Their survival could well come down to their result in the other match, which is at home against fellow strugglers Leicester City next week. In the meantime they will be desperate to pick up bonus points wherever they can, despite the frightening looking schedule they face.
Advocaat’s team are actually in decent form themselves with seven points picked up from the last twelve available. However, away from home they rarely perform to the best of their abilities as just two wins on the road all season illustrates.
Their recent form when playing away is also woeful with just one win in their last ten, which came at Fulham in the FA Cup. But, with Arsenal and Chelsea to finish their season with it is now or never for Sunderland and even a point at Everton this weekend could be enough to keep them up.
The main Asian handicap betting line for this match is 0.75, which potentially gives the away side a slight edge. As bad as they have been on the road, they have only lost by two or more goals twice this season and draws at Liverpool, Swansea and Stoke show they are capable of frustrating better teams on their day.
Everton are in cracking form at home as mentioned and did beat Manchester United by three goals in their last match at Goodison, but this will be a very different game with Sunderland looking to keep things tight and hit their hosts on the break. Plus, Martinez’s side have only fully covered a 0.75 line four times at home this season.
With Sunderland in dire straits, but also on a run of decent form and a touch of value in their Asian handicap betting price, we are backing the underdog to fight for their lives and at least keep the match close.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Sunderland +0.75 at 1.93
