Andriy Lunin started at youth football leagues Metalist Kharkiv and Dnipro Youth under trainers Oleksandr Khrabov and Kostyantyn Pavlyuchenko at the age of 13. By 2016, he went on to play for the likes of FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. With the club then facing bankruptcy, Lunin was pressed into service as a 17-year-old last season. As most of his team’s stars were already sold out, young Lunin was appointed the difficult place between the sticks. In the 25 games of his depleted squad, he managed to come out with 10 clean sheets and conceded 23 goals.
FC Zorya Luhansk
His pure talent quickly piqued the radars of his country’s top clubs. After qualifying for the Europa League, FC Zorya Luhansk recruited the goalie on a free transfer. His sharp defense skills catapulted him as a starting keeper in Zorya. He has played 16 of 19 games in the Ukrainian Premier League since 2017. He also started in all six UEFA Europa League matches for the team. He has recently played for Ukraine’s national team in a friendly against Saudi Arabia.
Top Prospect Among Teams
It wasn’t long before world-famous clubs caught wind of the young netkeeper’s abilities. Inter Milan, Arsenal, Juventus, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Watford, and Liverpool have all expressed keen interest in signing Lunin. Early this April, Inter Milan has reached an agreement with the 19-year-old keeper on a reported six million euro deal. Inter is thought to have beaten rivals Juventus and Arsenal in employing the services of the stopper. In true last-minute fashion, Arsenal has locked in a very late bid for the Ukrainian goalkeeper. But a move to Premier League could be gutted by Inter as they are purportedly just waiting for the transfer papers to be signed. And while they’ve yet to land his signature, Leicester is also said to be dead set to compete with Inter Milan on securing this prodigy.
And the hustling continues.
