Parma v Bologna – Stadio Ennio Tardini at 17:00 GMT
Parma are back on the up in Italian football after the doom and gloom of bankruptcy and near extinction over the past 15 years. After their second rebirth in the space of a decade, one of the continent’s most recognised clubs achieved a third successive promotion and a romantic return to Serie A for this season.
Led by Roberto D’Aversa, the Gialloblu have made a positive start to life back in the top-flight. The Crociati are nestled comfortably in to mid-table having returned W6-D3-L7 from their opening 16 tussles, including an eye-catching triumph against Inter Milan and spirited effort against Juventus.
Parma are already 10 points clear of the drop zone and the newly-promoted outfit will be keen to enhance that record to 13 points when they welcome struggling Bologna to the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Saturday evening.
Parma appeal at the prices
The hosts’ only two defeats here have come against big-hitters Juventus and Lazio with the Gialloblu boasting an impressive W3-D2-L0 record in their remaining five fixtures. Exclude top-six teams and Parma have W5-D3-L2 since returning to the top-tier, making D’Aversa’s troops an attractive angle of attack.
The Crociati might not be pulling up trees with their performance data figures but a 46% Expected Goals from open play figure is admirable and far outweighs that of Bologna. The Rossoblu have taken a 35% share from the same metric, putting the visitors in the bottom-three for xG from open play.
Head coach Filippo Inzaghi is under intense pressure after a series of turgid displays with Bologna posting just 0.55 xG from open play on average – the second worst effort in Serie A. With the guests winless since September, claiming only three points from a possible 18 on their travels, they’re easily opposed.
We can back Parma with a +0 start on the Asian Handicap line at 1.70. working in the same format as a Draw No Bet selection, we’ll see our stake returning should the match end all-square but enjoy a full-stakes profit should Parma win the fixture. We’ll only lose our money if Bologna triumph on Saturday evening.
The away side have only twice tasted victory in 2018/19, are entrenched in the Serie A relegation zone and are conceding 1.60 goals per-game on average. Bologna have been beaten in 17 of their 28 games as guests in league football since the start of last season and look to be given far too much respect in the pre-match markets this weekend.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Parma DNB at 1.700
