MLS Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Sunday 28th August by @meatmansoccer

@meatmansoccer has picked out the best value Asian Handicap bets from tonights big clash over the pond in the MLS.

New York Red Bulls v New England Revolution

New York Red Bulls preview

The Big Apple side are unbeaten in eight games but will feel a bit disappointed to only draw 2-2 against DC United last week.

It’s not the first time they’ve blown a 2-0 lead and you never know when this team will have defensive lapses which can be so costly.

The Red Bulls are third in the Eastern Conference and look well set for a playoff berth.

They could do with obtaining the highest possible seeding they can, in a quest to reach their first ever MLS Cup final. New York have been unfortunate with injuries all season, especially in defence.

They’ve also been crippled by the loss of key midfielder Dax McCarty who won’t be returning for a few weeks.

The Red Bull Arena is one of the big strongholds in MLS and they’ve won a massive 9 out of 12 fixtures in front of their own fans this season.

New England Revolution preview

The Revs are in freefall and have only picked up one point from their last five fixtures. That one point was obtained in midweek away against San Jose (0-0), so was hardly very inspiring.

Goals have dried up for the Revs, scoring just once in that five game period. I do wonder if they have their eye on the upcoming US Open Cup final against Dallas in a few weeks time.

Since they qualified for the final, their MLS results have been awful.

New England are now outside of the play off places, although the battle for sixth spot in the east is extremely tight.

Key defender Jose Goncalves is rated doubtful for this match and so is right back JV Watson. The Revolution have a poor away record, winning just once in 13 road attempts this season.

Conclusion & betting analysis

The Red Bulls are an extremely strong home team and face a side who are usually woeful away.

I think there’s a strong chance that Jesse Marsch’s men will pick up three points, so the first obvious pick is to back them on a -1 Asian handicap. This is priced at 1.97 and actually looks a bit big when you consider the record the Bulls possess at this stadium.

New England seem to be in cloud cuckoo land at the moment with a massive eye on the US Open Cup final. Their MLS form has been alarming and are bang out of form.

The other pick I like is over 2.75 goals. The Red Bulls are more than capable of covering this line on their own but New England should at least have a go here. I sense it’ll be a really open encounter containing numerous chances, with both teams likely scoring.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendations: New York Red Bulls -1 asian handicap at 1.97 & Over 2.75 goals at 1.80
