Italy v Portugal

Italy will be hosting Portugal in a crucial Group 3 clash on Saturday at San Siro in Italy. This meeting is quite a decisive one in this group after Italy’s 1-0 away victory against Poland last month. The said win narrowed the race for the top spot down between the rebounding Italians and the reigning European champions.

Italy will need to step up and bag three points in order to overpower their opponents at the top of the table. They will be hoping that Poland captain Robert Lewandowski and the team would dominate over Portugal in the last fixture of the season on Tuesday so the Italian outfit could overtake the Portuguese at the top of the standings.

Italy were at risk of being relegated before their integral win against Poland, but they will need to step up and come out victorious in this clash to have a chance of topping the group. Furthermore, the visitors are kind of weak at the moment without Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese side will likely struggle in big matches without him. Italy have experimented with different approaches under Roberto Mancini and they seem to be getting better but even though the Italians dominated Poland in the last round, they only managed to win the game thank to last minute goal from Cristiano Biraghi. Can they make it to two victories in order to bounce back in this season’s Nations League?

Italy didn’t have a win in five straight games before the above-mentioned victory against Poland. Overall, Italy have been much more successful throughout the course of history, winning 17 and losing just 6 out of the 25 encounters they had with Portugal. Meanwhile, Portugal could be struggling without their star player Ronaldo. Who among these two teams will come out victorious in this high-profile match?

England v Croatia

England are setting up to meet Croatia for the third time this year after their World Cup disappointment and a draw in their reverse fixture. England will give their all on Sunday as Croatia head to Wembley for a thrilling UEFA Nations League group decider. While England witnessed Wayne Rooney’s impeccable performance in Thursday’s friendly win against USA, Croatia were off trying to land a huge victory. Spain is currently at the top of the group standings with six points, however, losing in their last two games made their position open to other contenders. Just behind the Spanish side are England and Croatia with four points each which means a win for either side can lead to relegation for the other.

Tin Jedvaj’s last minute goal managed to secure Croatia’s dramatic 3-2 win against Spain in the Group 4 in League A. If England manages to oust Croatia, they will win the group fixtures and advance to the Nations League finals, and with Spain dropping into second place while Croatia goes further down. If England bags a draw alongside Croatia, they will finish second in the group standings, with Spain reaching the finals and Croatia suffering elimination.

England was remarkably impressive during their match against Croatia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and have created a series of strong displays in their previous two matches.  Meanwhile, the visitors may have kept their awful run after their fantastic display in the World Cup after a 1-1 draw against Portugal and a 6-0 thrashing by Spain.

Sunday’s match will likely be a tens encounter. England should be expected to round off this fixture with a home win and claiming top spot. On the other hand, Croatia failed to come out victorious in seven of their eight matches except for a solitary win against Jordan.

Switzerland v Belgium

With Iceland already relegated, the only thing left to sort out in the Group A Nations League is the winner. Will it be Belgium or Switzerland coming into the final fixtures in 2019? As of now, Belgium are on their course for the top spot after moving three points clear against the Swiss last Thursday. The Red devils managed to oust Iceland in a 2-0 win to continue their perfect start in the group fixtures. They will come into the match, hopeful to add another victory in their brilliant campaign so far.

As for Switzerland, they hit their minimum aim of avoiding relegation and they currently put themselves in a position where victory from either side will make or break them. Outscoring Belgium so far in the campaign, the Swiss exceeded everyone’s expectations and they’ll be hoping to finish the group fixtures on a high. They were able to secure the spot top of the seeds in order to qualify for the Euro 2020.

Since the start of the competition, this year’s campaign has been looking perfect for the Belgians. As a rising team in the football scene, any victory is quite huge for the Red Devils. They are currently looking like a team who are determined to bag the success in the Nations League, scoring seven goals and conceding only once which is a part of their unbeaten run in their six matches. Aside from that, they ended their World Cup campaign with a record finish and as the competition’s top goal scorers which boosted their profile in the international scene.

On the other hand, the Swiss have greatly struggled since their stint at the World Cup. Thursday’s match brought a loss against Qatar, a result which isn’t a good sign prior to their face-off with Belgium.
