Napoli v AC Milan – Stadio San Paolo at 19:45 Live at BT Sport

Napoli’s exceptional start to the new Serie A season stuttered before the international break as the Partenopei were held to a goalless draw against Chievo. It was the second time this term that Maurizio Sarri’s men followed a defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League with a 0-0 league draw,

Napoli enjoyed 73.3% possession against Chievo but created few clear-cut chances, and there was an undeniable sluggishness – by their own high standards – to their attacking maneuvers. A little tiredness is unsurprising in a team that, if you exclude international breaks, have played 18 games in 54 days (one every 72 hours) but does highlight the lack of depth in key positions.

Injuries to Arkadiusz Milik and now Faouzi Ghoulam have exacerbated the issues of Napoli’s small squad but before any obituaries are penned, it’s worth remembering the Partenopei remain unbeaten in domestic action this season and still sit top of Serie A by a point.

Napoli can cover the handicap

Napoli has won 10 of their 12 league fixtures, scored at least three goals in nine of those matches and boast both the second-best attacking record and the second-best defensive record in the league. Sarri’s side remains an outstanding outfit well capable of covering the -1 Asian Handicap here at 1.77.

The hosts did the double over Saturday night’s guests AC Milan last season and are unbeaten at their Stadio San Paolo base against the Rossoneri since 2010.

Underwhelming Milan

Milan may have picked up seven points from their last four fixtures to move into the seventh spot but it’s particularly noticeable that each of their five defeats this term have come against current top-six sides and their opponents covered the -1 handicap in four of these losses.

Victory over Sassuolo before the international break eased the pressure at least a little on Vincenzo Montella. However, the guests have still won just three of their last 10 games in all competitions and are 13 points drift of Napoli.
