MLS Asian Handicap Previews – 28th October Sunday

New England Revolution v Montreal Impact

With just one match to go, Montreal Impact still have a chance of making the playoffs. For a long period of time, they were seemingly in a head to head war with DC United to make 6th spot but that is a battle that United have won. Perhaps surprisingly, the form of Columbus Crew has given Montreal a ray of light though. A win here in New England coupled with a Minnesota victory or draw vs Crew, and the Impact would be celebrating a berth in the postseason.

It’s quite simply win or definitely go home for Montreal, so they will be giving it their absolute all this weekend. A trip to New England is never easy but with the extra motivation and drive, you’d have to give them the edge. The Revolution will be finishing 8th in the East this year but it’s been a season of frustration because they promised much more early doors. By the midway point of the campaign, Brad Friedel’s men looked to be well on course to make the top six. But the Revs have only won twice since early July and really stuttered in recent times.

I think it’s slightly surprising that Montreal can be backed at 2.45 to win this game. I wouldn’t normally advocate a 1X2 selection and I much prefer Asian Handicaps but in this instance, ONLY a win will do for the Impact so they will gamble all the way until the end. Some draw cover seems almost pointless because they’d be willing to risk anything to get 3 points. Of course, the one big problem might be if news elsewhere is bad and that the Crew are easily winning. Motivation levels could then drop, but I personally see Montreal as the better team right now and they should be able to do a professional job. The other pick I like for this match is over 3 goals. Some previous encounters between these two have been wild and it could be an end to end type of game with Montreal’s whole season on the line.

Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 3.00 goals at 1.800

Betting Recommendation: Montreal Impact to win at 2.45

Colorado Rapids v FC Dallas

All the pressure is on FC Dallas here in Colorado as the playoffs approach. A victory would guarantee them at least a second place finish in the Western Conference, and thus ensure a bye for the wildcard round of matches which comes very soon. But a defeat or a draw could even see them finish as low as fifth, which would be a disastrous outcome after the strong solid season they’ve had overall. Consecutive defeats facing DC United and SKC have come at the wrong time and it feels like they are stuttering into the playoffs rather than taking any momentum.

The Rapids have endured another miserable season, losing a massive 10 out of 33 games. They have at least kept back to back clean sheets in their last two games but facing Minnesota and San Jose almost doesn’t count. FC Dallas are a massive step up compared to those two opponents and the overall gulf in class is really big. Of course, it’s never easy playing in Colorado at altitude but the weather forecast is set fine and all the motivation is on the side of Dallas.

I just see this match in a simple way. FC Dallas needs to win, and I think they will win. It’s essential they get the three points here otherwise it could seriously jeopardize their playoff aspirations. I think we will see a fully focused and fired up visitors. Colorado won’t roll over easily and probably try to put up some sort of defensive resistance, but when all is said and done Dallas should be picking up the three points. The Texan outfit can be backed on a -0.75 Asian Handicap around the 1.85 mark and this looks more than acceptable to me.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: FC Dallas -0.75 at 1.850
