Minnesota United v FC Cincinnati
Minnesota United have actually lost their last three MLS games. However, they haven’t been in action since 9th June. Since then, a couple of very good victories in the MLS open cup including a come from behind victory at Houston Dynamo will have really lifted everyone’s spirits at the club. United still reside in the play-off positions of the Western Conference. They have steadily been slipping down after a very good start to the campaign though. Adrian Heath’s men need to get back on the horse and start winning their league matches again. The break from MLS would’ve probably done them some good and they now have a tasty home fixture to look forward to.
Things seem to be getting even worse for FC Cincinnati. They suffered yet another defeat last weekend, this time 0-2 against LA Galaxy. The new franchise are in a terrible run of 10 defeat out of 11 games. The misery doesn’t look like ending any time soon. All sorts of things have been going wrong for them, including injuries and international commitments. It’s never easy being a new franchise in MLS, unless you have a really good backing like Atlanta United and LAFC. You only have to ask their opponent this weekend Minnesota United how difficult it can be. The Loons encountered similar teething problems at this level but have seemingly found the feet much more this season.
It’s quite clear that FC Cincinnati need to be taken on at this moment in time. They don’t look like picking up any results and I fully expect Minnesota to win this weekend. Taking the home team on a -1 Asian handicap looks like the best way to go and at the very worst they should be picking up three points. I could see this being quite an easy success for the home team and they might rack up the goals too. This also feels like an over sort of match and I could see there being quite a lot of chances. Cincinnati are at the stage where they don’t really have any pressure on them and they might as well just go for it. So I think over 2.75 goals is another pick worth taking here along with the Minnesota handicap.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Minnesota United -1.00 at 1.900
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.75 goals at 1.950
New England Revolution v Houston Dynamo
New England Revolution have certainly seen an upturn in results since they sacked Brad Friedel. I am never a big fan of goalkeepers becoming head coaches anyway and he is an example of why it’s not a great idea. The Revs definitely caused a stir by hiring legendary US coach Bruce Arena as a replacement. The ex Galaxy manager certainly has a real aura about him and is highly respected by everyone. It is clear that his impact has had a positive effect on the team already and was just what this franchise needed because it was heading nowhere in recent years.
It has been a really tough period for Houston Dynamo recently. They have been crippled by some injuries and international absences. Combine that with some difficult matches plus a lot of travelling and it’s no real surprise to see them struggling in terms of results. For this match they should at least have their attacking duo Ellis and Quioto back from Gold Cup duty but it’s unlikely that either will be in great physical shape after the demands of an international tournament camp. The Dynamo were away at Portland Timbers last weekend and got hammered 0-4. In midweek they were out west again, this time against San Jose Earthquakes. Yet more travelling is now required to the eastern seaboard and Gillette Stadium this Saturday night.
Even if they were at complete for strength and off the back of a full week of rest I would still have a little faith in Houston Dynamo here. I really think they are one of the most overrated sides in MLS and we all know away from home this is a side that have massive issues. I’m surprised that New England can be backed at such a big price here. Maybe current league position is being looked at too much but it feels like to me both sides are heading in the opposite direction right now. The Revs are -0.5 Asian Handicap favourites around the 2.05 mark and I can only see this shortening as the weekend approaches.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: New England -0.50 at 2.050
