Man City v West Ham – Etihad Stadium at 13:30 live on Sky Sports 1
Possibly not one of the most inspiring fixtures in the Premier League this weekend with both sides looking like they have given up over the past few weeks. That’s obviously not the case, for City anyway, as they are still going to have fight for a top four finish and a return to the Champions League. West Ham on other hand only have a top half finish to play for, which must be a little demoralising after pushing for their own UCL spot for most of the first half of the season.
There has been a lot in the press this week linking Jurgen Klopp to Man City as he revealed he would be leaving Dortmund in the summer. Talk of this must affect the City players and their manager, but Pellegrini still has a job to do and an important one at that.
The Citizen’s have lost 4 of their last 6 league matches, to Liverpool, Burnley, Palace and last week’s derby loss at Old Trafford. Another defeat will really let Liverpool and Southampton back into the race for the top 4 so a strong performance is necessary on Sunday.
Despite their recent poor form, City have won their last 3 in a row at the Etihad, scoring 10 without conceding and I think they are good value to cover the Asian Handicap betting line of -1.75 this weekend. 6 of their 15 home matches this season would have returned a profit at -1.75, including all of their last 3.
West Ham season is getting worse and worse, they’ve now only won 1 match in their last 10 Premier League outings and 1 in 11 of their matches on the road. They have failed to score in 4 of their last 7 away league matches as their early season form has well and truly gone.
Sam Allardyce continues to be spoken and written about and it’s unlikely he will be still be in charge at the start of the next campaign. Swansea boss Gary Monk was linked with the Hammers this week and I expect more rumours to unfold when West Ham are beaten well this Sunday.
Man City can use this game to restore some pride and put in a performance similar to the 5-0 win over Newcastle at the end of February. Their confidence may be low but they have still regularly found the back of the net, scoring 18 in their last 8 matches and with Aguero back on song, I have to go with the home side to win comfortably.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Man City -1.75 @ 2.0
