Man City v Tottenham – Etihad Stadium at 20:00 GMT+1
Tottenham Hotspur will make a visit to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City for the second leg of their Champions League quarter final, aiming to defend their 1-0 lead. The hosts were the heavy favourites to come out as winners in the first leg, but in an opposite turn of events, City got a reality check when Son Heung-Min found a way to find the net and secure the victory.
Manchester City managed to win four of their previous five matches across all competitions. They only lost once and have kept three clean sheets in the process. Furthermore, the Citizens clearly have the advantage since they will be playing at home. They already won 11 competitive matches on the trot at the Etihad, only failing twice so far this season. Add to that the fact that the visitors will be without Harry Kane and it looks like the victory will be in the hands of Pep Guardiola’s men.
Tottenham, on the other hand, will enter this match fresh off the back of a 4-0 victory against Huddersfield over the weekend. The Spurs might have kept up their momentum at their new stadium, but their form on the road hasn’t been that great lately. They lost six of their past seven fixtures on the road, with their only consolation being a 1-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last-16.
– The Spurs will be without key player Harry Kane after acquiring an injury in the first leg.
– Harry Winks is also struggling with a groin injury but Mauricio Pochettino said he is optimistic that Winks will be fit in time for Wednesday’s match.
– City’s Fernandinho remains a doubt after a muscle injury that saw him miss the weekend’s victory against Crystal Palace. However, it was reported that the injury was ‘short-term.’
PROBABLE FORMATION & STARTING XI
Man City: 4-3-3
Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Delph, Fernandinho, David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero
Hugo Lloris, Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Rose, Sissoko, Harry Winks, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura
Sergio Aguero is the top scorer at Manchester City with 19 goals to his name in the league so far this season. Apart from this, the forward also rounded up five goals in the Champions League for City.
Son Heung-Min has proven to be one of the most valuable players for Tottenham this season. With Harry Kane unavailable for this match, the team would definitely rely on Son to score goals and secure the victory.
Man City v Tottenham: 2-1
A victory for Manchester City is on the cards especially with the home advantage and the absence of Harry Kane. Aside from this, Pep Guardiola and his men definitely won’t succumb to another loss at the hands of the Spurs for the second time. However, Tottenham shouldn’t be underestimated though. With or without Harry Kane, this is a team that shouldn’t be messed with.
