Man City v Arsenal – Betting Preview

Etihad Stadium – Sunday 18th January at 16:00 live on Sky Sports 1

This weekend’s standout match see’s 2nd place Man City take on an inconsistent Arsenal . This fixture has been full of goals in recent years with the last seven matches between the 2 at the Etihad producing 28 goals. Both teams need a win, City to keep up with Chelsea after dropping 2 points in a disappointing draw with Everton last week and Arsenal to stay in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

Manuel Pellegrini received the Manager of the Month award for December after having a fantastic month. City picked up 13 points from their 5 league matches last month scoring 14 goals conceding 4 with the only blip being a 2-2 draw with Burnley after leading 2-0. They also qualified for the for the knockout stages for the Champions League and face Barcelona next month. Their focus now though is to keep pressure on league leaders Chelsea and a win at home on Sunday is a must. The Citizens home form under Pellegrini is outstanding, winning 25 of his 29 games in charge but they face a side who has the 2nd best record away against City with only Chelsea winning more matches at the Etihad.

Arsenal looked good against Stoke at the Emirates last weekend but still rely very heavily on Alexis Sanchez who has been involved in 19 goals this season, scoring 12 and assisting 7. It’s their form against top sides which is the main concern for Arsenal though, last season they lost all 4 away matches against teams who finished in the top 5. This season they have drawn with City and lost to Chelsea, Man Utd and Southampton, all teams sitting above them in the table. They face a tough task to continue their 17 year run in the Champions League with more competition than ever for a top four place. Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott are back to full fitness which will give them more of a chance but the Gunners will have to be on top form to get anything out of this game.

This promises to be a cracking game with two of the leagues inform players, Sanchez and Silva have both been instrumental for their teams this season. City have home form and head to head form on their side and with Aguero and Kompany likely to start, even without Yaya Toure they should have enough to take all three points. The value bet here is to back Man City to Win @ 1.83.
