Liverpool v Tottenham – Anfield at 17:30 live on BT Sport 1
Saturday’s evening Premier League fixture see’s Tottenham make the trip to Merseyside where they’ll face Liverpool at Anfield. The hosts come in to the match as 2.29 favourites, which based on current form looks a little on the short side. Liverpool do hold a good record over the Lilywhites at home, however, it’s the visitors that offer some value on the Asian Handicap market.
2017 hasn’t been kind to the Reds, they are without a win in 5 league matches and have dropped out of the top 4.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have now lost 4 of their last 5 in all competitions. They are out of both the FA and EFL Cup and could see themselves slip to 6th this weekend, with City rivals Everton snapping at their heels.
It’s not as if they’ve had a tough run of fixtures either, having faced 3 teams from the bottom 4 since the turn of the year, picking up just one point.
Liverpool are always going to concede goals, but have managed, up until recently, to outscore their opposition. The goals have dried up though, scoring 6 in their last 5 league matches compared to 11 in the five before.
Comping up against a second placed Spurs side who have the best defence in the league this weekend is a fixture that Klopp could probably do without.
Unlike their opponents, Spurs have been progressing nicely and have climbed up to second, albeit 9 points behind league leaders Chelsea.
Tottenham are now unbeaten in their last 9 EPL outings, winning 7, conceding just 5 times in the process.
The Lilywhites have lost just twice in the league this season, and no team has conceded fewer goals (16). They also have the 5th best attack in the division, however goals have dried up of late.
They could only manage a 0-0 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and needed a late penalty from Harry Kane to nick a 1-0 win over Boro at the Lane last time out.
Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Liverpool earlier on in the season and I’m confident they will avoid defeated this Saturday. Confidence is high and they should head to Anfield believing they can worsen Liverpool’s year.
On current form, Liverpool should not be as short as 2.29 to win this one. They are without a win or clean sheet in 5 league games and I don’t see another one this Saturday.
The Reds do hold a good record over Tottenham at Anfield though, undefeated in their last 8. Pochettino is also yet to beat Liverpool as Spurs manager.
I have to go with the form team here, especially with Spurs priced up as big as 3.53. They offer great value with a +0.25 advantage on the Asian Handicap market at odds against.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Tottenham +0.25 at 2.03
