Liverpool v Newcastle – Anfield at 17:30
Liverpool welcome former manager Rafa Benitez back to Anfield on Saturday evening as they look to jump back into second place spot.
Can Rafa come back to haunt Liverpool?
Rafa Benitez is a real favourite at Anfield, having won the Champions League famously in 2005. The Spaniard is still loved by the Liverpool fans but will look to put relationships aside as his Newcastle side needs to three points to further put themselves outside of the relegation zone.
When the two sides met in October, the game ended 1-1 as Rafa’s pragmatic approach was enough to thwart Liverpool’s attacking talents. I’d expect Benitez to employ similar tactics at Anfield as he will know too well that Liverpool sometimes struggles against a deep defensive block.
Firmino and Salah remain key
The season that both Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah are having is fantastic. Their goals combined make them the most feared duo in the Premier League at present, and when you throw Sadio Mane into the mix it is frightening for any opponent.
The Brazilian and Egyptian remain absolutely key for Jurgen Klopp’s side, though, and are really irreplaceable. The German will know that he cannot lose either player if they want to maintain the challenge for second place.
Liverpool are the league’s second-best team
In the table, Manchester United occupy second place but there is little doubt that on current form Liverpool is the league’s best side. Jurgen Klopp’s men have been absolutely electric for the majority of this season.
Last weekend’s 4-1 win followed a 5-0 defeat of Porto away from home and the Reds will be expecting another quality performance and convincing victory on Saturday evening.
