Liverpool v Tottenham – Anfield at 19:45 live on Sky Sports 1
Two of the Premier League’s title contenders go head to head in the EFL Cup 4th round tomorrow night. Liverpool welcome Tottenham to Anfield with both sides enjoying positive starts to the new campaign. The Reds come into the match as favourites and offer some value on the Asian Handicap market.
Jurgen Klopp is really starting to get results now, with a focus on attacking, entertaining football. Yes, there are some are issues defensively, but Liverpool come into this match unbeaten in their last 9 outings.
In the league, they are third, level on points with Man City and Arsenal, in 1st and 2nd respectively. No team in the league has scored more, (20) and their 9 EPL matches have seen an average of 3.44 goals per game.
Unsurprisingly, Over 2.5 goals is priced up at 1.72, despite all 3 of of Klopp’s meetings with Spurs failing to cover. Each of those 3 meetings ended in draws.
On current form, Liverpool are the best side in the league and without European distraction, Klopp is also taking this competition seriously.
They put a total of 8 goals past Burton and Derby in previous rounds. The Liverpool boss selected a strong starting XI in both of those matches and is expected to do so here.
Spurs remain the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League. However, they are now on a run of three matches without a win and are struggling for goals.
The recent international break seems to have messed with their momentum. Prior to the break, they defeated title favourites Man City and were touted as serious contenders themselves. A 1-1 draw against WBA followed, before a goalless encounter with Bournemouth at the weekend. There was also another stalemate away to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, leaving the North Londoners with just 1 goal in their last 3 matches.
Defensively they are sound, boasting the best record in the league with just 4 conceded in 9. They have also chalked up 5 clean sheets in the EPL, but against the best attack in the league, they will need to be at their best.
Unlike Liverpool, Tottenham are involved in Europe, meaning this competititon is the 4th priority on Pochettino’s list. It is a piece of silverware however, and the Spurs boss likes to win. That being said he also like to rotate for cup competitions.
I don’t think we will see Tottenham’s best starting XI tomorrow night, which is why their price is as big as 5.25.
This is a match that I see the hosts winning. Klopp will field a stronger side than his counterpart and are the form side. Tottenham are struggling for goals, but should be able to find their way through a leaky defence. Goals are on the cards, but Over 2.75 goals on the Asian Line at 1.91 is a little on the short side for me.
Instead I’m taking the 1.92 on offer for Liverpool -0.75 on the Asian Handicap market.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Liverpool -0.75 at 1.92
