Bayer Leverkusen v Werder Bremen – BayArena at 19:30 live on BT Sport 2
Werder Bremen travel to Leverkusen this Friday evening where they’ll face Bayer who host the opening match of round 24 in the Bundesliga. Die Werkself will be looking to bounce back from consecutive league defeats. But, against an in form Bremen side it’s going to be a tough first match in charge for Tayfun Korjut. The smart money here is with the visitors on the Asian Handicap market.
Leverkusen were thumped 6-2 by Borussia Dortmund last weekend, their 2nd league defeat on the bounce. It was Roger Schmidt’s last game in charge after 3 years on the banks of the Rhine.
In his place comes former Kaiserslautern and Hannover manager Tayfrun Korjut. He is faced with the tough task of moving Bayer up from 10th to an automatic European qualification spot. They are currently 11 points off the top four.
It comes as no surprise that the board decided it was time for a change. The 30 points Leverkusen have earned after 23 matches is there lowest at this stage of the season since 2002/04 (26).
They have already suffered more defeats this term than in the entire season last year and it’s been over 40 years since they conceded more goals after 23 games (36).
Bayer are in desperate need of a victory and maybe a change of manager will spark them back into life However, Korkut’s recent form is questionable having won just 15 of 48 matches with Hannover and 4 from 17 with Kaiserslautern.
Die Werderaner will be looking to make it 4 wins in a row which would see them move up to 13th in the Bundesliga.
Bremen made in three wins on the spin last time out with a 2-0 home win against Darmstadt. It is the first time in 2 years that Werder Bremen have won three consecutive league games.
Alexander Nouri has really turned things round in the last month moving his side 2 points above the relegation play-off and 7 points above the bottom two.
Despite their poor form, 4 losses in their last 6 league games, Bayer come into this match as 1.63 favourties.
They are certainly a better side than what we have seen in recent week’s and a new manager could make the difference. However, I have little confidence in them and even less at such a short price against an in form team.
Werder Bremen are in a rich vein of form and morale is high. They have also beaten Leverkusen in each of their last 3 meetings.
With a +1 advantage on the Asian Handicap market priced at 1.89, my money is with the visitors.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Werder Bremen +1 at 1.89
