Mestella – Sunday 30th November at 20:00
Valencia host Barcelona this Sunday in the pick of the weekend’s La Liga fixtures. Barcelona have started to click in more recent matches and won comfortably last week, beating Sevilla 5-1 which also saw Lionel Messi overtaking Telmo Zarra’s longstanding goal scoring record. Valencia’s performances have been fairly inconsistent so far this season but they have been very strong at home.
Los Che have a record of 5 wins and 1 draw at the Mestella in La Liga, scoring 3 goals in each of their victories. They have looked solid at the back also, only conceding 3 times. Their record against Barcelona however, won’t fill them with much confidence as they are without a win in 7 at home and have not won successive matches against Barca since 2003.
Barcelona are sitting second in the table just 2 points behind Real Madrid and will want a strong performance and result here to keep pressure on their rivals. The Catalan side have won more away games against Valencia than any other side in the league and with Messi in top form, they look to extend that record on Sunday. To add to his hat-trick last weekend, Messi also scored another hat-trick in mid-week in the Champions League. Suarez also registered in mid-week but has been more of a provider since his move from Liverpool, with 4 assists in La Liga so far this season.
Despite Valencia’s strong home record, I can’t see anything but a Barcelona victory here. I think there is some value with Over 3.5 goals @ 2.38. You can also back Barca to win and Over 2.5 goals @ 2.25. Looking at the Asian Handicap market, you can back Barcelona -1 @ 1.97.
