Gladbach v Hertha Asian Handicap Preview – 9th February Saturday

Gladbach v Hertha – Borussia-Park at 14:30 GMT

The returning Thorgan Hazard had a hand in both goals as Borussia Monchengladbach moved above Bayern Munich into second place in the Bundesliga with an impressive 2-0 win over 10-man Schalke last weekend.

Schalke v Mönchengladbach | 2019 Bundesliga Highlights

The Belgium international made his presence felt within minutes of kick-off as Die Fohlen started on the front foot at the Veltins Arena. It was a frenetic opening where both sides traded excellent opportunities, although the opener didn’t arrive until five minutes from time as Gladbach scored twice late on.

Substitutes Christoph Kramer and Florian Neuhaus were both on-target with Hazard the architect in the lead up to the two goals. The win marked Gladbach’s third victory on the spin since the resumption of the Bundesliga and makes Dieter Hecking’s outfit the closest challengers to table-topping Dortmund.

Home is where the heart is

The Schalke success was only Gladbach’s fourth on the road in 2018/19 and the North Rhine-Westphalians will be looking forward to returning home on Saturday for what should prove a very winnable showdown with Hertha Berlin at Borussia Park. And Die Fohlen can be backed at an appealing 1.70 here.

Gladbach’s swashbuckling approach has seen the hosts only out-scored by Dortmund and Bayern with the likes of Jonas Hofmann, Hazard and Alassane Plea proving fearsome operators. Indeed, the hosts have racked up two goals or more in 14 of their 20 Bundesliga outings.

At Borussia Park, Hecking’s outfit have W9-D0-L0 with a splendid 25-3 goal difference across those nine fixtures. The hosts have won by a margin of two goals or more in eight of their nine victories on home soil, and should be confident of extending that streak on Saturday.

Hertha have cup distractions

Gladbach could also be aided by opponents Hertha being in DFB Pokal action on Wednesday night against Bayern Munich. The capital club have beaten the all-conquering Bavarians at the Olympiastadion already this season, but with only two days to prepare following their cup fixture, it has to be seen as a distraction.

The Berlin boys were on the wrong of a defeat last weekend, losing 1-0 to Wolfsburg. It was only their second home loss of the campaign and means the visitors have only claimed top honours three times in league action since September. What’s more, have conceded at least twice in six of 10 away days.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Monchengladbach -0.50 at 1.700
