Getafe v Eibar – Coliseum Alfonso Pérez at 19:15 live at Eleven Sports
Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas said his side made life ‘too easy’ for Real Madrid during their opening La Liga game of the season. Los Azulones were beaten 2-0 at the Bernabeu last Sunday night with a goal either side of half-time.
Geta, for their part, offered plenty of Madrid derby bite against their neighbours but only had a tame scissor kick to show for it, as well as seven yellow cards. And Bordalas was unhappy with his team’s efforts, saying:
“It was a complicated game, but my feeling is that maybe we weren’t at the desired level of demand. We didn’t do what we’d set out. Nothing came off for us. They played very comfortably and we made it too easy for them.”
Getafe backed to pick up maximum points
The strict disciplinarian claimed his charges were lacking last season’s thrust and dark arts, and against the three-peat Champions League winners, life was always going to be tough. However, Los Azulones should be supported to get their 2018/19 campaign up and running on Friday night.
The Madrid minnows welcome Eibar to their Coliseum Alfonso Perez home and look worthy 2.10 value to overcome a -0.50 Asian Handicap hurdle. The hosts returned W9-D4-L4 when entertaining teams outside of the Big Three and pocketed W7-D4-L1 here against teams that finished below them.
That latter sample included seven clean sheets and Bordalas’ rugged outfit are expected to mount another top-half challenge this term following a number of reinforcements in the summer.
Regression expected at Eibar
Eibar have enjoyed a fabulous few years in La Liga, tabling their own top-10 finish last term but regression is expected as the Basque club’s small budget sees their leading lights picked off on a regular basis. And Los Armeros made a slow start to the new campaign with a surprise home defeat to debutants Huesca.
If was only the third occasion in 70 years that a La Liga newcomers had won away on the opening weekend and Eibar coach Jose Luis Mendilibar had few complaints about the result, saying “Yes, (it was) very, very fair. They had more play, more chances, more goals. They were brave and did us a lot of damage.”
The visitors fired blanks in six of their nine away days last season and W3-D3-L8 when traveling to teams in 15th and above. With that in mind, I’m happy to oppose Eibar at the odds on offer.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Getafe -0.50 at 2.092
