Forwards on the Wish List of Premier League Clubs this Month – By @SocanalysisHQ

Forwards on the wish list of Premier League clubs this month

A number of Premier League clubs look short of cover in attack and/or have misfiring centre forwards so this month is set to see numerous clubs make moves in this department.

Tottenham have been one of the most impressive teams so far this season but don’t be surprised if Daniel Levy resurrects his summer pursuit for West Brom’s Saido Berahino in this window. Spurs are desperate for adequate cover for Harry Kane and Berahino fits the criteria. Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi is another forward Spurs have looked at. Batshuayi is a prolific goalscorer but won’t come cheap and Spurs are more likely to go for the safer option in Berahino who is relatively proven in the Premier League.

Swansea have scored just 17 goals in 20 Premier League matches this season so are clearly short of goals. Centre forwards Bafetimbi Gomis and Eder have been largely disappointing, so much so that Andre Ayew has been deployed as a central attacker. While Gomis is a handful, he struggles technically which can be problematic for Swansea’s style of play whereas Eder has struggled to make any impact since joining the Swans in the summer. It may be worth Swansea moving for Fiorentina forward Giuseppe Rossi. Rossi missed the entire 2014/15 campaign through injury and has failed to regain his place in the Fiorentina side and there are suggestions that the former Manchester United and Villarreal forward could be available in this window. Rossi is better than what Swansea have and a loan move would be low risk.

In the last 12 months, Crystal Palace’s forwards have scored just 5 Premier League goals between them, so there is a clear requirement for Palace to add a goalscorer to their squad. Like many clubs, Palace looked at Charlie Austin in the summer but were put off by QPR’s asking price. However, the South Londoners may just have to pay the money required for the QPR forward. Austin scored 18 goals in 35 Premier League appearances for a relegated QPR side and is a considerably better goalscorer than all of Palace’s forwards.

Newcastle look in serious danger at the bottom of the table and are another side struggling for goals. Big money summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic has just 3 goals in 16 appearances while Papiss Cisse has been ruled out for potentially three months. Newcastle are another club who showed interest in Charlie Austin and may reignite their pursuit. However, there are suggestions that Chelsea are ready to offload Loic Remy this month and if that is correct, Newcastle need to make a move for a player who scored 14 goals in 24 Premier League appearances for the Magpies in a season long loan spell in 2013/14.

Of course, if Chelsea are willing to let Remy leave in this window that would suggest the current Champions have already lined up a replacement for the French International. Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Alex Teixeira is a player who has many admirers at Stamford Bridge and with 26 goals in 26 matches in all competitions this season the Brazilian fits the bill. Teixeira is not a centre forward though, he is at his best in playing just off a central striker, nevertheless his goalscoring record suggests he knows where the back of the net is.
