Fortuna v Freiburg Asian Total Goals Match Preview – 29th September Sunday

Fortuna Dusseldorf v Freiburg – MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA at 14:30 GMT+1

Fortuna Dusseldorf finished in mid-table after promotion to the top-flight last season with Friedhelm Funkel’s men winning many admirers for their attacking approach. The side lost Dodi Lukebakio in the summer but brought in an exciting prospect in Nana Ampomah, as well as USA goalkeeper Zack Steffen.

Dusseldorf made an impressive start with a 3-1 win at Werder Bremen, although Steffan was awarded the Man of the Matchday award on the opening weekend for his heroics, making 10 saves to help Funkel’s troops earn an unlikely victory. Fortuna followed it up with a 3-1 Rhineland derby loss to Leverkusen.

Two more defeats from three winless matches have since seen Fortuna slide down the Bundesliga rankings and Funkel’s troops can hardly argue. The North Rhine-Westphalia outfit occupy a bottom-two berth across the main three performance data ratings despite not facing any of the division’s Big Three.

Freiburg stall last Saturday

Freiburg have been the early surprise package in Germany, sitting third in the embryonic standings following a thrilling 3-0 victory at Hoffenheim. However, the Black Forest boys failed to back that impressive outing up when being held by Augsburg (1-1) at the Schwarzwald-Stadion last Saturday.

Head coach Christian Streich remained philosophical post-match, suggesting his side lacked a little luck in front of goal. The burgeoning partnership between young hitman Luca Waldschmidt and Nils Petersen has been a major source of promise but Freiburg twice hit the woodwork without success seven days ago.

Despite the club’s eye-catching victories over Paderborn and Hoffenheim on their travels, it’s still difficult to support an away-day victory knowing the guests mediocre road record.  Only the bottom three sides had a worse record on the road than the Black Forest club in 2018/19, while the year before only Koln earnt fewer than their dismal nine point output.

Goals on the agenda

Over 2.5 Goals has been quoted at 1.75 and that’s too big to ignore when Fortuna host Freiburg. Going back to the beginning of last season, a huge 15/19 (79%) of Dusseldorf’s matches at the Merkur Spiel-Arena have beaten this goals line, with 12 (63%) of those tussles featuring goals at both ends.

Over the same period, Freiburg have rewarded Over 2.5 Goals backers in 12/19 (63%) road trips, with 11 (58%) also banking for Both Teams To Score hunters. Already this term, the duo are comfortably beating the Over 2.5 Goals line when viewing Expected Goals (xG) output and so a thrilling fixture awaits.

Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.50 Goals at 1.750
