Feyenoord v Manchester United Asian Handicap Preview – Thursday 15th September

Jose Mourinho will experience the Europa League for the first time since 2003 tomorrow night. His new charges, Man Utd travel to Feyenoord for their first group match. His last match in the competition saw his Porto side lift the trophy. Porto then went on to win the Champions League the next year. United will be hoping for something similar, but it’s their hosts who are the value bet on the Asian Handicap market for this match.

Feyenoord have started their season like a train. They have won all 5 of their opening Eredivisie matches, scoring 15 times. Former Liverpool star, Dirk Kuyt has netted 3 times this season and Utd fans will be aware of the threat he can cause.

They have a young defence, but it’s solid enough having conceded just twice in 5 matches.

Under coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst they have vastly improved and are real contenders for the title after lagging behind Ajax and PSV in the last couple of seasons.

Feyenoord also boast a good record at home in Europe, unbeaten in their last 4 outings. In 2014/15 they won all 3 of their home matches at De Kuip, including a win over perennial UEL Champions, Sevilla. They also lost just three times at home in the league last season in 17 outings.

Manchester United come into the match on the back of a derby defeat. After a great start to the season, winning his first 3 matches, Mourinho now has to lift his players.

There will be some big names missing for the Red Devils. It has been confirmed that Rooney, Shaw, Valencia, Mkhitaryan, Lingard and Jones won’t be travelling to Rotterdam. It also won’t be a surprise to see Ibrahimovic and Pogba start on the bench, giving Marcus Rashford and Chris Smalling a chance to start.

Jose may not be taking this competition that seriously but he doesn’t like to lose. He’d take a point here and rely on their home form to see them through to the knockout stages. I think a draw is likely.

Utd haven’t won any of their last 5 road matches in European competition. I expect that to extend to 6 tomorrow night. This is a big game for the hosts and they are full of confidence. Odds against with a +0.5 advantage on the Asian Handicap market is a big price and will undoubtedly shorten up before kick off.

Asian Handicap Recommendation: Feyenoord +0.5 at 2.01
