FA Cup Match Previews – 26th January Saturday

Manchester City v Burnley

Manchester City will be hosting Burnley at the Etihad Stadium in one of the rarest Premier League matchups for the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday. Man City will be looking to continue their match-winning streak this weekend when they welcome Burnley for their FA Cup clash.  Man City already secured a place in the finals of the Carabao Cup after winning against Burton Albion on Wednesday in the second leg of their semifinal faceoff.

Pep Guardiola’s men are currently riding on a high and will be entering Saturday’s match fresh off the back of a 7-0 thrashing of Championship side Rotherham United at the Etihad during the third round. Furthermore, City’s 1-0 victory against Burton was their seventh consecutive victory throughout all competitions. This time, Man City seemed to have completely left behind their mixed form and this is the perfect opportunity for them to bag their 8th win. Apart from this, their form at home was remarkably outstanding, winning 13 of their previous 14 games on their home turf and scoring a massive 55 goals throughout.

Burnley, on the other hand, are in the middle of a four match-winning streak  and conceded just two goals in five of their previous fixtures. Sean Dyche and his squad are having quite rollercoaster campaign this season which could be both a good and a bad thing. If they manage to keep a good form until their clash against Man City, they might just stand a chance. However, the Clarets are currently just three points above the relegation zone so they will really have to be determined if they want to stay above the line. Also, the gap in quality between these two teams is massive so expect the hosts to come out victorious in this match.

Brighton v West Brom

One of the most interesting ties this season is set to take place on Saturday afternoon as Championship side West Bromwich Albion travels to the Amex Stadium in Falmer to face Brighton for their FA Cup clash. Brighton were overpowered by Manchester United during the quarter-final of last season, but now, they will enter this match as the favourites despite having two match-losing run. They will need to recover from the series of losses they encountered though, in order to secure a victory against West Brom.

On the bright side, the 0-1 loss Brighton endured against Liverpool on January 12 was only their 3rd league loss at home so far this season. Despite encountering some losses, they managed to become one of the toughest teams to matchup against on their home turf under boss Chris Hughton. Managing consistency in producing goals, on the other hand, is still an issue for the Brighton. Despite this, they still have a chance to advance to the next round of the FA Cup if they manage to secure the victory against the Championship promotions hopeful.

West Bromwich Albion, in the meantime, recently rose to the third spot in the Championship standings after acquiring a 0-2 victory on the road against the Bolton Wanderers. They are now three points below 2nd placers Norwich City, and just four points behind league leader Leeds United. They’re currently enjoying quite a fantastic run so far this season, losing just once in 13 fixtures. Saturday’s match between these two teams will definitely prove to be entertaining and thrilling considering the great form these two currently have.

Newcastle v Watford

Newcastle United will be hosting Watford for their matchup in the fourth round of the FA Cup at St. James’ Park on Saturday. Newcastle will enter this match as the form favourites, despite Watford leaving a much better impression so far this season. The Magpies managed to win two on the spin through all competitions, gathering seven goals throughout the process. Their attacking techniques will definitely give them something to be confident about and will serve as an advantage prior to the final third of the season.

Rafael Benitez’ men are currently seated at the 17th place in the Premier League table, a massive gap in between them and 7th placers Watford. They can’t afford any more failures if they want to keep their position in the English top flight. Their attacking ways have improved though, and they could use this in order to secure points against their opponents. Furthermore, their 3-0 victory against co-strugglers Cardiff City was very important since it moved them a few points away from the drop zone. However, their status will be threatened once again especially when they take on a side like the Magpies.

Watford, on the other hand, are currently unbeaten in their previous four league fixtures, but winning just one in the process. They currently sit at the 7th spot in the league standings due to a stellar start to the season. The Hornet managed to come out successful in four of their last 14 matches in all competitions. They were also able to cruise past Burnley over the weekend. Unfortunately, that match was just their only 3rd clean sheets in 14 matches played.
