Exeter City v Liverpool Asian Handicap Preview – Friday 8th January

Exeter City v Liverpool – St. James’ Park at 19:55 live on BBC One

The third round of the FA Cup starts tomorrow night with League 2 side Exeter City welcoming Premier League big boys Liverpool to St. James’ Park and it’s live on BBC One.

The Grecians are struggling this season as they sit in 16th of the bottom division in English football. The FA Cup could prove to be a welcome distraction for the Devonshire side as they are currently on a losing streak of 4 matches, 3 of which came on home soil.

It’s far too early for long-serving manager Paul Tisdale to be concerned with relegation out of the football league, but it will certainly be Exeter’s main aim for the season. This FA Cup tie could be used to motivate players although on their current form, Liverpool, even as short as 1.46 offer some value.

Exeter have already played two rounds so far, beating non-league Didcot Town and League 1 side Port Vale in round 2. This is obviously a much bigger challenge for the Grecians, but this is the FA Cup and the nation will be hoping for an early upset.

The last thing Jurgen Klopp needs is to be on the end of a high profile giant killing after what has been a mixed start to his tenure as Liverpool boss. They come into the match on the back of a 1-0 1st leg League Cup win over Stoke on Tuesday night, taking a big step to the final at Wembley.

Despite being 66 places above their opponents, there is the potential for an upset here due to Liverpool’s long injury list which explains the bigger than expected price on the Reds. Sturridge, Origi, Coutinho, Lovren and Skrtel to name just a few will all be missing from this tie. However, Liverpool’s stand-ins are more than capable of beating a League 2 side that are struggling themselves, even in front of what is undoubtedly going to be a boisterous home crowd.

This is a match that Klopp will want to win and win well then focus on their league match against Arsenal next Wednesday. Goals are expected, with Over 2.5 priced at 1.68, which is a little too short for my liking considering Liverpool haven’t exactly been banging them in lately.

The visitors are the value bet on the Asian Handicap betting market though at 1.99 -1.25, which is my recommendation for this one.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Liverpool -1.25 at 2.06
